Family holidays have long been held sacred by many and, particularly for those with large families, finding a holiday that appeals to everyone can be a daunting task. It can also be quite expensive. But you don’t have to bundle the family off to Disney World to find fresh family fun. Indeed, the perfect family holiday could be a little close to home.
Why ski holidays?
Tell somebody that’s never been skiing that you’re going on a ski holiday and they will undoubtedly assume you’re either incredibly wealthy or exceptionally sporty. But that’s not necessarily the case. A ski holiday doesn’t have to be overly expensive and is tailored to suit all skill and experience levels. And that’s just one of many reasons (more to follow) why ski holidays are ideal family vacations.
All the adventure with none of the risk – Yes, there is always going to be a slight element of risk when skiing, especially if it’s your first time. But with the right professional guidance, it’s very unlikely you’ll end up seriously injured. Instructors are told to start beginners off slow and ease them into the more challenging slopes. And anyway, you have travel insurance, right?
The great outdoors – It’s a sad fact that the younger generation today spends most of their waking lives glued to their smartphones. A ski holiday is a perfect excuse to unglue them from their screens. If you’re trying to introduce your kids to the great outdoors then you could do a lot worse.
Memorable moments – Learning to ski and explore a new potential passion is an experience that will live with your whole family for the rest of your lives together.
Friends for life – One of the most underappreciated parts of a family skiing holiday is the community aspect, which sees families from all over the world coming together to share something exciting. This is a great opportunity to meet likeminded families and create lasting friendships in a controlled and safe environment.
A new skill – Being able to ski isn’t exactly a transferrable skill but it can help with things such as balance, core strength and hand-eye coordination. It will also help with cardiovascular health and burn a lot of calories, which is particularly important given the incredible food many ski resorts also offer.
Rules and respect – There are lots of rules and boundaries inherent to skiing that will teach your kids a level of discipline and respect. Perfect for those just starting school.
It’s about more than just skiing – Whether it’s snowboarding, sharing drinks in the ski lodge or experiencing the local culture, there is so much more to a skiing holiday than the skiing itself. Many resorts offer full entertainment programs that keep the party going long into the night and there are also plenty of opportunities to go on nature hikes and explore natural wonders.
