PureTravel: Travel Knowledge Built on Experience

In a world overflowing with travel content, finding information that is genuinely useful can be surprisingly difficult. PureTravel has developed as an independent travel resource designed to cut through that noise, bringing together destination inspiration, practical advice, first-hand experiences and informed perspectives from people who understand travel from the inside.

The PureTravel Blog was conceived in 1999 and launched in 2009, as independent travel was being transformed by the internet and the rapid growth of low-cost airlines. Today, it draws on a network of more than 250 writers and contributors, covering destinations across the world alongside adventure, wildlife, culture, food, responsible tourism and practical travel advice.

At the heart of PureTravel are Sara White and Robert Ferguson, whose combined experience spans more than six decades in travel, tourism, publishing, writing and conservation.

Sara White is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has worked in the travel industry for 30 years. Her career has encompassed long-haul travel, publishing, marketing, travel writing and photography, as well as frontline conservation. She has travelled extensively across six continents and more than 75 countries, experiencing everything from independent overland journeys and wildlife expeditions to boutique hotels and luxury lodges. Her particular interest in sustainable tourism and conservation helps ensure that PureTravel looks beyond simply where to go, considering how tourism affects destinations, wildlife and local communities.

Robert Ferguson has similarly spent more than 30 years immersed in specialist travel. He began his career as a mountain guide in the Himalayas before working in adventure travel and establishing specialist travel businesses in Pakistan, Italy and the UK. He is the author of the Footprint Guides Nepal Handbook and a member of The Explorers Club in New York. His travels have taken him through some of the world’s wildest and most remote regions, while his professional experience gives him a practical understanding of what makes a journey work.

Both Sara and Robert are also closely involved in conservation through Explorers Against Extinction, bringing an additional dimension to PureTravel’s approach. Travel is not viewed simply as a consumer product, but as something capable of supporting conservation, sustaining communities and encouraging greater understanding of the natural and cultural heritage of the places we visit.

This depth of experience is particularly valuable at a time when online travel information can be repetitive, commercially driven or produced without first-hand knowledge. PureTravel combines expert editorial oversight with contributions from travel writers, travellers, tourism professionals and specialists who can offer different perspectives and genuine insight.

The result is a resource for travellers who want more than a list of the world’s most photographed attractions. Whether researching an African safari, planning a European city break, considering an adventure in Asia or simply looking for ideas for a future holiday, PureTravel encourages readers to travel with curiosity and to look beyond the obvious.

Above all, PureTravel is about sharing knowledge. It helps travellers discover where to go, what to see and how to get more from the experience, while championing a thoughtful approach to exploring the world. With Sara White and Robert Ferguson overseeing its editorial direction, it combines decades of practical expertise with a continuing enthusiasm for discovery, helping travellers make better-informed, more rewarding and more responsible choices.
