How to plan and prepare for a mountain hike

  • July 5, 2021
  • Jules

A trip to the mountains is always a big event associated with hassle and experience. In this article, we will not give lists of equipment or understand thermal underwear features but talk about planning and preparing for the trip in general. What needs to be done in advance so that the trip is enjoyable and not painful?

Start planning ahead

This is the first and most important thing. The sooner you start planning, the better you can prepare. The most optimal time is a year. You will not believe how quickly time flies and how many things need to be done. The best time in the mountains is the second half of July and the first half of August. The weather is the most stable, with the peak of the holiday season at the same time. So this summer is the right time to decide on the wishes and schedule for next summer and draw up a business plan for organizing the trip. Define key steps and milestones:

  • Route preparation;
  • Approval of the list of participants;
  • Equipment preparation;
  • Preparation of layouts and first aid kits;
  • Final check.

How to Prepare for a Mountain Hike? Check your health

Mountains, mountains, mountains. We live on the upcoming vacation for a whole year, think about the trip, and mentally transfer ourselves to the world of high peaks and alpine meadows. This is when you can save yourself the hassle, finish your work or study, and give important work to the professionals of the writing services. It’s like starting a relationship. Common sense turns off, and we can only think about the route and equipment. And many people forget to think about themselves. Are you ready for a trip to the mountains?

The second and essential thing, which many do not even remember, is to check their health. A seemingly elementary thing that many people ignore. All diseases are aggravated at altitude, this is no secret to anyone, and the consequences can be unfortunate. The easiest option is to be examined and tested in any sports clinic. It should be fine.

Train in the off-season

So, you have been tested, medicine has given the green light, but before you start packing your backpack, you need to do something else for yourself. To carry this backpack, you need strength and endurance, so physical training, in principle, should not stop. You must be ready to complete the route.

Trivial, you say? Well, for some reason, many remember physical training sometime in April, if not even later. Many people think so. Hmm, three months before the trip, maybe we should start running? This is trite. Physical training should be complete without interruptions throughout the year.

Plan your route carefully and calculate your strength

Well, the training schedule is all set, the bosses give leave at work. It’s time to get started on the route. Prudence and critical thinking are essential at this stage. The success of the entire event depends on how accurately and competently you planned the route.

The traffic schedule should be uniform. It is better not to exceed 10-15 km per day. If possible, in the early days, try to make the transitions smaller. People need to be allowed to disperse. Of course, don’t forget about acclimatization. It is essential to consider the difference in altitude between overnight stays, it should not be more than 500 m, and you should not gain more than 1000 m per day.

Plan to rest every 3-4 days on the way. Divide the route into approximately equal parts, look at picturesque places and make stops there. After all, you have a vacation. And you must have a backup plan. Look at the thread of the route, look at the passes you have to pass, imagine that for some reason, you cannot pass one of them (bad cold weather, not enough experience, equipment, strength).
