Dear fishing and hiking lovers, welcome. If you have come across this article it is because, most likely, you are thinking of an excursion to reach untapped places, where you can relax and indulge in a well-deserved fishing trip.
The idea itself is very good, but you will certainly have to be very careful starting from the preparation of your adventure.
First of all, it is important to think about how to organize your equipment, but above all to understand which tools are needed for an excursion which purpose is to reach a good place to fish.
Secondly, you need to take some practical precautions, and it would be useful to know them before setting out.
So here is a short guide that we hope will help you in choosing your equipment and organizing your next fishing trip.
Let’s start.
The equipment
First of all, we must properly prepare our fishing “arsenal”.
Normally we could choose the usual equipment without thinking too much, but since we are planning a walk, we have to properly prepare ourselves.
Travel rod that fits in your backpack
Considering that we should walk for a shorter or longer distance, and considering that we may find ourselves walking in rough paths, perhaps we should think about keep our walk comfortable.
So let’s choose a comfortable backpack, which allows us to move easily and lightly.
We also have to think about the capacity: for a half-day hike, a 12-liter backpack may generally be enough; but in this case we must consider the fishing equipment.
A 20-liter backpack could therefore be ideal.
To this, however, we must also add our fishing rod: for this reason, our advice is to choose a travel fishing rod, comfortable to carry even in a trekking backpack of medium capacity.
The market offers different models of travel rods, in super resistant materials and easy to assemble / disassemble.
Minimal accessories to avoid taking up space in the backpack
The second piece of advice we want to give you regarding the choice of equipment is to think carefully about what you need for your fishing trip and for your excursion.
Try not to take up too much space in your backpack with either one or the other type of equipment.
It is better to be light if we have to reach a very isolated place where we cannot reach by car, and which requires a long distance on foot.
We therefore choose the equipment suitable for the type of fishing we want to do; remember to take bait and groundbait in an easy-to-carry quantity; but we also leave room for essential items such as sweatshirt, k-way, gloves and cap, water bottles and something to eat.
Polarized sunglasses for better fishing
If we are considering fishing on a particularly sunny day, it is good to think of also having adequate shelter for the sun.
A hat or a cap is fine, but the best thing in this case is a pair of sunglasses with polarized lenses.
Polarized lenses are made with a certain chemical film that helps neutralize polarized light that can be caused by the reflection of sunlight outside on surfaces of water, snow or solid surfaces.
And in our case they are fundamental, since we intend not only to walk, but also to fish and then stare for a long time at a stretch of water that can have a lot of reverberation.
Practical advice
In addition to advice on the equipment to prepare, we have also thought of a couple of useful tips when we are thinking about a fishing trip that also includes a long walk.
Choice of the route
First of all, read up carefully on the place where you want to venture.
Seek advice and information from other fishermen and hikers who have faced this adventure before you.
Check carefully all the information about the route you want to do (there are always sites dedicated to hiking that can help you).
If you are not an expert hiker, choose simpler path: this will help you enjoy the trip.
Better if you are in two or more
Fishing is a sport that is best enjoyed in company, it is known. In this case, being in two can also be considered a good precaution.
In fact, an excursion with more people can be both convenient in terms of transporting the material and in terms of safety: you will certainly be able to help each other in case of unforeseen events.
Health and safety
Remember to always bring water to drink, especially on hot days: it will help you keep hydrated even during the journey.
We also have to prepare a small first aid kit with disinfectant wipes, patches, a spray for insect bites.
If possible, always carry mobile phone with yourself: thanks to the GPS we can avoid the unfortunate possibility to get lost, and it can be useful in case we need to call emergency numbers.
In any case, before leaving, always notify someone, specifying the exact place where you will go fishing.
We hope that this short guide will help you enjoy your next fishing trip to the fullest in secluded places that can only be reached with a little trekking: it will require more effort than usual, but you will see that it will be worth it.
