The Lake District is renowned for its beautiful landscape and stunning towns, and sometimes it can be quite difficult to know where to choose for your next trip! With so many destinations in one area, it’s safe to say that you’re spoilt for choice. However, Lake District Hotels are on hand to offer some advice on the area.

The town of Keswick, in the north of the Lake District, is one destination that is packed with great attractions and well known museums. With only a small population, Keswick is a friendly market town with a history that goes back hundreds of years. With beautiful sights and a number of activities to choose from, Keswick is a great destination whether you’re going for a day trip or a weekend.

Surrounded by dramatic mountains including Skiddaw and Blencathra, this interesting place is a great choice for your next adventure. So, if you’re thinking about spending a short break in Keswick this year, let Lake District Hotels help you to plan it.

Here are just some of the things you can do in Keswick and its nearby areas!

Explore The Walking Trails

The Lake District is probably most known for its various walking and hiking paths. Attracting people from all over the world, the walking trails in this area of the country allow you to take in nature at its best. Coupled with some of the most beautiful lakes and mountains, prepare to be in awe. As Keswick sits on the edge of Derwentwater, the lake itself provides a stunning walking route.

However, there are many other walking trails, designed for all abilities. If you’re feeling brave, you can reach the top of Skiddaw or Scafell Pike and enjoy the spectacular views in a peaceful setting. It doesn’t matter if you’re not the active type; some of the walks can be done leisurely while you take in the scenery.

The lakes offer a mesmerising experience; bodies of water such as Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite Lake and Thirlmere are all nearby and provide a beautiful backdrop for a day out.

Go Sight-Seeing

As well as the lakes and mountains, Keswick has so many different things to offer; making it the perfect destination to please everyone! Home to one of the most dramatic monuments, Castlerigg Stone Circle, you won’t be short of things to do in Keswick. This particular stone circle is one of the earliest in Britain, having appeared around 3000 BC during the Neolithic period.

Keswick Museum is one of the most impressive sights in this market town. With exhibitions that change regularly, it’s the perfect environment for a day of soaking up some culture.

There is also a wildlife park, one of Keswick’s hidden gems. With a whole host of interesting animals, it’s perfect for a day out with the kids.

Get Involved In Sport

The Lake District is sometimes synonymous with watersports and being active. With so many lakes to choose from, there are some adventurous activities like rock climbing and kayaking to keep everyone busy. Along with the multiple walking routes, you have the chance to get out on the lake and spend a day learning a new skill!

Keswick is also home to an outdoor adventure centre that allows you to try your hand at different activities, including ziplining and abseiling! Planning your next trip will never have been so fun.
