To get a taste of traditional British culture, spending a day at the races makes the perfect summer’s day out for locals and tourists alike. You may have pondered on the idea but never actually gone ahead with it, or perhaps you have just never even thought about it! Here is a list of 5 reasons as to why you should enjoy a day out at the races, and you may not necessarily have thought about these before…
Stag & Hen dos
Spending a day horseracing is a great way to celebrate a hen or stag do with pure class and style. It’s a completely different concept to the norm yet you can still drink, socialise and get dressed up for the occasion. With many horseracing venues such as Royal Ascot you can hire boxes where you will be catered to throughout the day, meaning you can enjoy the races in a more personal setting. Don’t forget after the races you can still continue your evening by hitting local bars and clubs and continue the stag/ hen fun!
Family day out
Racing has traditionally been recognised as a day out for adults only, but recently many racecourses have broadened their horizons and adapted to make it the perfect family trip. Courses such as www.kempton.co.uk offer family friendly events where children are invited to dine in the Panoramic restaurant for free! Most courses not let in children into the races for free of charge as an added bonus.
Place your bets!
A day at the races wouldn’t be the same without the betting side to it. It’s great fun if you’ve brought along that spare bit of cash to place a bet or two on your favourite horse to win. Before the races, at the stands you can check out the horses as they parade around the racecourse before taking your pick and heading to a betting kiosk. Here you will receive your betting slip and then you’ll cheer your horse on all the way to the finish line, and you never know, if your horse pulls through you might be in the money!
Socialising with the stars
Particularly Royal Ascot, many racecourse events ooze a touch of glamour giving you the excuse to get your best dress or suit on and mingle with the elite! You’ll be sure to spot a few celebrities in the wings, and of course the Royal family make their annual visit to Ascot. At Royal Ascot last year in 2012 the top celebrity spots included Kelly Brook, the Royals, and Michael Macintyre to name a few!
Events
Most venues such as Kempton Park and Newbury offer a fantastic hospitality service. This means you can hire parts of the venue for an event whether it be a wedding, corporate event or perhaps another celebration. Conferences and business meetings often take place in venues such as these and through booking in advance you can rest assured your catering and hospitality needs will be taken care of.
