Visit New York Thousand Island River Valley Region

New York is filled with history and some of the country’s most beautiful scenery, the Thousand Island-Seaway region houses nearly 2,000 islands the picturesque bays of Great Lake Ontario, 27 state parks, miles of breath-taking coastline and endless adventures on land, water and air.

This region is one of the most scenic and houses some of the most charming fairy-tale castles known as the millionaire mile. The lighthouses, museums, premium outdoor adventures and scenic byways lead to some of the most interesting pieces of history this country holds. Explore the historic waterways and learn more about the Top Nine Great American Drives and look for New York deals to bring your dream trip to life.

Begin your adventure in Oswego where you can walk along the walls of Fort Ontario a star-shaped fortress overlooking Lake Ontario. Depending upon the time of year when visiting the Thousand Island-Seaway region you can participate in many special events like the anniversary of the War of 1812, or July 28 – 31 for the Harborfest.

The many hiking trails along the scenic Salmon River in Pulaski where you can fish for steelhead, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and huge salmon. You can camp, sleep at old country inns and stay at the many historic villages where you can enjoy the Great Lakes Seaway Trail in Sackets Harbor. The re-enactments of the great Battlefields State Historic Site visit the restored Navy Yard and Commandant’s House.

Visit the Black River canyon and ride the seven miles of class III and IV rapids, or Old McDonald’s Farm Village where both children and adults can create memories that will last them through the years. The 1827 Tibbett’s Point Lighthouse that has been standing alone where the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario meet; you can stay at the Victorian-era light keeper’s quarters in the family rooms. Stay near Clayton where you can watch the docks and take a cruise down the St. Lawrence River where you can visit Boldt Castle, a majestic 120-room Rhineland style castle with breath taking Italian gardens.

This is the land of dreams and history where you can interact, walk down the same paths, ride the wild white water rapids and witness the same sunrise that so many have done before us. This is an area that you do not want to miss, and an experience you do not want to forget.
