A road trip is one of the best sorts of holidays you can do, for a host of reasons. It enables you to see many places in one trip, it gives you proper quality time to spend with your travel companion and it can be more affordable than other ways of travelling. If it is something you’ve always wanted to do, there’s no better time than now to get planning. If you’re looking to take a road trip around Europe this Summer, we’ve put together some top tips that should help it all go smoothly. Just remember if anything doesn’t quite go to plan, it’s all part of the experience and will be something you laugh about in the future!

Plan your route before you go

Before heading on your road trip, you need to decide where you are going to visit. If you don’t do this, you might find you end up travelling aimlessly and miss out on a host of top attractions and things to see. Decide where you will begin and sort a mode of transport from here, for example looking into ROIG’s car hire in Palma airport. You could use Google maps to decide on the cities or towns you want to go to and decide whether you will do a loop or a line, ending up at the same or a different place at the end.

Decide where you are going to stay

While spontaneity can be a good idea with road trips, you also want to make sure you have somewhere to stay. It’s a good idea to pre-book your hotels or other accommodations in advance to ensure they have space on the day. The last thing you want is to be ready for bed and not be able to find somewhere. The earlier you book, the more likely you are to get discounts too! Just ensure you leave enough time to explore each of the destinations on your list so you aren’t disappointed.

Plan in time for traffic and rest stops

When you are on a road trip, it will never go perfectly and will always take longer than you anticipate. You need to factor in time for traffic that might occur, getting lost and stopping off on the way. Whether this is for lunch, for the toilet or just to stretch your legs and have a drink, it’s important to consider. Factor this if you’re buying set tickets for attractions or things to do as you don’t want to be late and miss them! Always leave extra time.

These are just a few top tips for planning a European road trip. Doing this will end up being one of the best holidays you’ve ever done, it’s just important to be prepared ahead of time. Make sure to take plenty of photos and decide on a rough itinerary before heading and you’re all set! Have you been on a road trip before? What top tips would you recommend?
