Brisbane as a Travel Destination

  • October 29, 2020
  • Jules

For most people around the world, the two Australian cities that first come to mind are Sydney and Melbourne. Those metropolises, located in the state of New South Wales, conjure up some of the famous images that are often associated with the country.

While Sydney and Melbourne are well-regarded for good reason, they are far from the only urban travel destinations that Australia has to offer. Further up along the eastern coast lies Brisbane, which is the capital of Queensland. Brisbane has a surprisingly large population of over two-million people nestled inside a cityscape that locals and visitors alike often refer to as having a small-town vibe.

For anyone who is planning on taking a trip to Queensland, or for any locals who want to be reacquainted with the wonders that their city has on offer, visit this page for more information about Brisbane.

For those vacationers who are already well informed about what to do and where to go inside the city, read on to find out about the exciting and accessible destinations that lie outside the Brisbane city limits.

Where Can I Travel Near Brisbane?

It is always so important for people to stay informed about the latest travel news, especially with regard to where they are going. With the number of tourists and locals constantly exploring every inch of a city, it is easy to suffer from information overload and then miss out on some of the best activities and places to visit in a given area.

Fortunately, the sheer variety and diversity of destinations nearby Brisbane means that everyone from solo travelers to families on vacation will find the perfect place for them without having to scour social media for the latest trend.

Day trips from Brisbane

Sometimes, even when already on vacation, the best thing to do is to just pack a car or catch a train or bus and get out of dodge. Luckily, Brisbane is one of the best places in Australia for doing just that as there are myriad places to explore just a short trip away that will have thrilled holidaymakers exhausted, sated, and, most importantly, back at their hotel room that same evening.

For adventure-seekers, Queensland must be atop the list of states to explore in Australia. Within just a stone’s throw of Brisbane, adrenaline junkies can go hang gliding above the Gold Coast or swim beneath the crystalline waters of the expansive coastline that features dozens of decaying and hauntingly beautiful shipwrecks off of Moreton Island.

For foodies who are more intent on exploring the areas near Brisbane from solid ground, there are a number of exciting options. The Sirromet winery offers tours and tastings of some of the best wine in Australia and is only 45 minutes away from Brisbane. An even more convenient option while staying in and around Brisbane might be to take a food tour, where experienced and knowledgeable guides will take care of all of the logistics as they explain about the local cuisine while providing guests with a true taste of what the Gold Coast region has to offer.

Weekend and overnight escapes from Brisbane

One of the beautiful things about Brisbane is how accessible the natural world is from the city. Queensland boasts not only incredible beaches but also some of the most daunting and awe-inspiring rainforests around. Visitors to the Gold Coast are not forced to decide between exploring the urban and the rural as there are plenty of choices close by for visitors to experience.

An option that is not centered on the amazing beaches and coastal roads is Ravensbourne National Park, which is a gorgeous wooded area located inland from Brisbane. The heavily forested park seems like a completely different world from the ocean but is only a couple of hours from Brisbane by car. Within the park, there are camping areas for a more rugged weekend getaway as well as luxury options for those hikers who still want to maintain that vacation feeling even as they travel a bit outside of Brisbane.

Further south down towards New South Wales lies Lamington National Park. As opposed to the more alpine region of Ravensbourne, Lamington is a sub-tropical rainforest that offers visitors from Brisbane a more feral and dramatic landscape.

Lamington’s treetops and hiking trails are full of the exotic wildlife that Australia is famous for. But animals are not the only thing the park offers. The land is also important to the local Aboriginal people, and guides and experts offer travelers a complex understanding of the region’s history, making it both an informative and breathtaking escape from the hectic buzz of city life.
