Don’t Let a Tight Budget Keep You From a Dream Vacation

  • September 11, 2018

If money was no object, would you spend a good portion of your time traveling the world? Like most, your answer is probably a resounding yes!

Unfortunately, most people don’t have an unlimited supply of money in their travel budget. You need to pick and choose your trips carefully, all to ensure that you don’t miss out on anything you really want to see.

While there’s nothing wrong with following a strict budget, you don’t want to miss out on a dream vacation as the result. Instead, when you plan in advance and take advantage of a few key strategies, you can improve the likelihood of having the money you need to hit the road when the time comes.

Here are four tips to keep in mind:

1. Keep a Travel Savings Account

This one is simple: open a bank account that stores money for nothing more than travel expenses.

With this in place, you’ll always know how much money you have for your next trip. As the months go by, your savings will grow and so will your ability to see new places.

2. Use Large Chunks of Money to Travel

Are you due to receive a bonus check at the end of the next quarter? Are you hoping to receive a Christmas bonus from your company? How about a nice sized tax return?

If you come across a large chunk of money, think twice about how to best use it. You don’t have to take every last dime for your travels, but using some of it on an upcoming vacation may be the solution to your problems.

3. Watch for Credit Card Debt

Many people love traveling so much that they never think twice about the debt they’re taking on.

There may be times when it’s okay to go into debt to travel, but you don’t want to make this a habit.

If you find yourself buried in credit card debt and worried it will stop you from traveling in the future, it’s time to assess your situation with an eye toward bettering your situation.

For example, if you have debt spread over several credit cards, you can consolidate it with the help of a balance transfer offer.

With this, you can bring your credit card debt under one roof. Even better, with a zero percent introductory rate, you have time to payoff or pay down your debt without finance charges getting in the way.

4. Search for Ways to Save

Although it’s easy for your spending to get out of control when traveling, there are many ways you can actually save money.

Take for example someone who is traveling to Calgary, Canada. With so many free and low cost activities, there are many ways to stay busy without overspending.

Final Thoughts

Even though the average vacation expense per person in the United States is more than $1,100, it doesn’t mean you have to spend this much.

If you’re presented with the opportunity to take a once in a lifetime trip, search for ways to make it happen. Don’t let a tight budget hold you back!
