Online photo sharing site Instagram has just revealed their top 10 most photographed locations for 2013 – with some really surprising inclusions!
You’d expect some of the most iconic tourist sights to make an appearance, but the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal and Pyramids of Giza don’t even get a look-in. Take a look at the top ten and see how many you can check off your must-visit list;
1. Siam Paragon Shopping Mall, Bangkok, Thailand
2. Times Square, New York
3. Disneyland, California
4. Bellagio Fountains, Las Vegas
5. Disney World, Florida
6. Staples Center, Los Angeles
7. Central Park, New York
8. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
9. Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Bangkok, Thailand
10. The High Line, New York
It’s no great surprise that eight of the ten locations are in the USA; and after all, Times Square (which occupies the number two spot) is the most popular tourist attraction on earth, official!
What is surprising are the locations at the number one and nine spots: both in Thailand. Topping the list is the awesome Siam Paragon shopping mall in the heart of Bangkok, which is one of the largest malls in Asia. As well as the 270 or so shops, the mall is also home to a 15 screen cinema, bowling alley, aquarium, food court and karaoke center. Located in Bangkok’s Pathum Wan district, Siam Paragon opened in December 2005 and is home to big-name luxury fashion labels such as Burberry, Dior and Jimmy Choo, alongside local stores.
And the previous year’s list topper falls to number nine: the modern Suvarnabhumi Airport was posted to Instagram more than 100,000 times.
Studies indicate that 17% of online adults use Instagram on a regular basis – up from 13% just a year ago. It’s estimated that some 75 million people use the photo and video site regularly.
