The summer festival season is in full swing right now in the UK, with some fantastic festivals coming up to cater for all musical tastes. It’s time to pack up your tent, wet wipes and wellington boots – it’s about to get loud!
Tennent’s Vital Music Festival
Held annually in Northern Ireland, Tennent’s Vital will take place at Boucher Roads Playing fields in Belfast. Traditionally a two-day event, Tennent’s Vital is extending its schedule of events this year due to popular demand and will run from 14 to 16 August. Tennent’s Vital was first held in 2002 at Belfast’s Botanic Gardens and covers the indie, pop and hip hop genres. This year has an impressive line-up with Kings of Leon and The Vaccines up first on the 14th, Snow Patrol, Kodaline, Jason Mraz and Foy Vance playing on the 5th, and finally Avicii, Tinie Tempah, Rudimental and Tommy Trash closing the festival on the 16th.
Sundown Festival
The usually sleepy county of Norfolk comes alive this summer for the annual Sundown Festival which takes place at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich. With a concert like ambience and an amazing line up and awesome amenities, Sundown is a must for modern music fans. Running from 30 August to 1 September, Sundown attendees can camp onsite or purchase tickets for each individual day. And this year offers a new line luxury camping, with ‘glamping’ options on offer for the first time ever! With a stellar line up of artists including Example, DJ Fresh, Rita Ora, Amelia Lily, Danny Byrd, Jessie J, JLS, Roska, Charlie Brown and Amplify Dot – this year will be loud! And the best news is that there are currently low cost concert tickets still available!
Somerset House Summer Series
The summer series at London’s Somerset House is sure to please fans of all types of music. Located on the Strand in London’s Westminster, the sprawling grounds surrounding the neoclassical masterpiece play host to the annual Summer Series. This much-anticipated event will take place at the capital’s historic arts and cultural centre over 10 days each July. The schedule of events covers pop, chill out and ambient music, including open-air shows from some of the biggest names in pop music. The line-up for 2013 includes Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Of Monsters and Men, Lianne La Havas, Richard Hawley, Tom Odell and Jessie Ware. Fingers crossed the rain stay away!
Electric Daisy Carnival
The international music festival Electric Daisy Carnival will be making its way to London for the first time ever this summer. Held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Electric Daisy will feature the best in electronic dance music in a psychedelic setting. A stellar line-up includes Avicii, Steve Angello, Porter Robinson and Madeon.
BoomTown Fair
The UK’s annual BoomTown Fair isn’t just a music festival; rather, it’s a celebration of music, art, fashion, theatre and more. The event is taking place at Winchester Matterley Bowl from 8 to 11 August 2013. BoomTown has a setting unlike any other summer festival: with camping, winding streets an ever-growing number of stages and participating artists and craftsmen, BoomTown appeals to festival-goers of all types, tastes and ages. This year’s line-up features everything from reggae to rockabilly. A few feature artists include Babyhead, Solo Banton, Boys in the Woods, The Wurzels (ubiquitous festival act!) and The Wrongtourage. For a touch of camping glamour, stay at the boomtique village which is dubbed as a ‘mad metropolis’!
