Travellers to Sri Lanka should be aware that as from 1 January 2012 all tourists will be required to apply for their visa electronically. The new permit will now cost 50 USD (32 GBO) and will replace the current visa on arrival service.
The practice of visa on arrival will still apply up until this date then the electronic system will be in place and allow tourists to enter Sri Lanka twice within a thirty day period. Applications can be made via the official website of http://www.eta.gov.lk
