New figures released by PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) show which countries in Southeast Asia gained the most popularity in 2010.
With a visitor growth rate of 35% compared to 2009, Vietnam has seen the biggest international tourist growth. This is no great surprise to us at PureTravel – we’ve been harping on about Vietnam being a must-see destination for a while now! Singapore saw the second biggest tourism increase with 20%, the Philippines had a 17% increase and Thailand 12%, compared to the previous year.
In fact Southeast Asia was a hot destination in general last year, probably thanks to the low costs locally, friendly and welcoming people and an abundance of quaint culture, ancient history, amazing beaches and challenging sports. In fact, international tourism increased by 12%m which represents a new arrivals record, with more than 72 million visitors to Southeast Asia last year!
