Liberia Holidays – Tours & Adventure Travel Guide

PureTravel Says
“The country of Liberia is located on the West Coast of Africa. The Atlantic Ocean and the countries of Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea border it. Monrovia is the capital of Liberia, which is named after the American President James Monroe. Historically, freed slaves from America founded Liberia in 1822 and they named the capital to express their gratitude to the president. English is the official language and Christianity is the major religion but you can also find more than 20% of the population to be Muslims living in different parts of Liberia. There are different foreign minorities and 16 aboriginal groups and this diversity in population makes Liberia attractive for holidaymakers.”

Liberia Holiday Highlights

Wildlife, Birdlife & Nature - Liberia’s wildlife is quite fascinating as there are a variety of animals to see. For instance, Sapo National Park offers visitors the chance to see hippopotami, baboons, crocodiles, colobus monkeys, chimpanzee, buffalo, white-spotted nose monkey, elephants, antelopes, mongoose, tortoise, leopards, and vipers. In terms of fauna, white-breasted Guinea fowl, Xenomystus nigri and White-necked Rock fowl should never be missed on your Liberian holiday.

On the other hand, you can find several bird species in Liberia that are truly fascinating. You can view weaverbirds, hornbills, doves, pigeons, parrots, flamingoes, eagles and bulbul, which is the national bird as well. The region is also home to the quirky woodpecker.

Along with several species of animals, you can find as many as 260 species of trees in this region with a lot of mahogany, ironwood and walnut trees. Sikon also grows in this part of the world.

Walking, Hiking & Trekking - Liberia’s plains can be found by moving inland around 16 to 40 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The plains are perfect for hiking and trekking. There are forestlands, low scrubs, and savannahs along with several ponds, creeks, streams and rivers. If you move a bit more towards the inland, you will come across rolling hills, which can be considered for hiking as they rise 500ft. One of the historical towns that you will see in this area while trekking is named Bopulu. Bopulu can also provide you a great trekking experience. Here, you can observe two of Liberia’s most amazing peaks called the Wologisi range and the Nimba range. Wologisi range rises at around 4,500ft, whereas the Nimba range has the height of 4,540ft.

Besides trekking, you must never forget to check out the Kpa-Tawe Waterfalls, which are just 4.5 hours away from the capital city of Monrovia.

Swimming, Fishing & Boating - Swimming, fishing and boating can also be considered on your holiday in Liberia because there are several beaches and rivers. For fishing, Lake Piso, just 80km from Monrovia, is arguably the best place. For swimming and boating, travelers can consider Bernard’s Beach, Cedar Beach, Elwa Beach, Kenema Beach, Caesar’s Beach and Sugar Beach. Silver Beach is a beautiful Liberian beach, located minutes from the center of Liberia’s capital, Monrovia.

When To Go

Liberia boasts a hot climate with day temperatures around 25C (77F) all year round. The dry season runs from november to April and the wet season runs from May to October.
