What to do in Las Vegas

  • March 1, 2013

When you check into the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas, you might be surprised at what you get for under $100 a night. But how much you pay depends entirely on the type of deal you can find – and one of the best ways to find deals on things like accommodations and airfare is through one of the reputable travel sites. Never been to Las Vegas? Here are some suggestions for your first trip to Sin City:

What to do:

Stay on the Strip: There’s really no way to get the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas experience unless you stay on the strip. The strip is packed with hotels, and you can find some reasonable prices.

Peruse the Vegas Strip: A definite to-do. The Vegas Strip is one of the most visually exciting walking experiences you can have without intending to do so. Depending where you stay and which direction you walk, you may be able to spot some of Vegas’ most famous landmarks in a quick stroll. The Las Vegas Eiffel Tower is on the strip and it’s a great representation of the Las Vegas environment. If you get to eat out on the deck of this Eiffel Tower replica, you may be able to spot the fountains at the Bellagio hotel.

Fountains at the Bellagio: Perusing the Vegas Strip is more of an inevitable than a suggestion. But if there is one landmark to visit, it’s got to be the fountains at the Bellagio hotel. This water and light show is as visually stunning as it is easy to catch. If you miss the start of the show don’t worry, there’s one every half an hour. And if you’re there at peak weekend times, the shows happen every fifteen minutes.

Take in a show: Vegas has some major acts, from the family-friendly Blue Man Group to headliner acts, like Elton John or Celine Dion. A visit to Las Vegas is not complete without attending a show. You can find shows in fantastic locations not far from the Las Vegas Strip, whether you want to attend an afternoon performance or a late-night comedy event. You just should search for some low-price Vegas show tickets before your visit.

What not to do:

Gamble: Though this one may be a controversial “not-to-do,” unless you’re a serious gambler you’re missing out on the other gems that Vegas has to offer. If you do decide to gamble, make sure to bring cash and set a limit for yourself. You don’t want to be the guy pulling out money at a Casino ATM very early one morning.

Talk to Strangers: People will try to stop you on the street. This will happen no matter what you do or how you walk. They’ll try to sell you something. Think of these people as street telemarketers. They are very good at luring you in using their words. And now that you know they’re there hopefully you’ll be able to handle their used car salesman antics.
