So, you’re excited about your first fishing trip. Naturally! There is plenty to look forward to.

Now that you’ve honed your fishing know-how, practiced your fishing skills, and invested in all the necessary fishing equipment, it’s time to put everything you’ve learned into action! You need to find a top fishing destination and then book an organised fishing trip to find the best spots. There are many excellent locations and one of the best is southern Florida. Checking out Key West Fishing Charters or other fishing charters nearby which will help you make the most of your trip and help you catch the biggest and the best.

An other-worldly adventure awaits you on this new venture, and we can’t wait for you to experience it. But, as with any outing, being prepared for anything ensures that you make the most out of your experience. Get ahead of your game and fish like a pro here are some best baitcasting reel brands.

Understandably, a little anxiety can also be anticipated. This is new terrain for you, after all. Plus, the deep blue comes with a lot of surprises — good and bad. There are many unexpected things that can happen.

So, why not look forward to the best and prepare for the worst?

If you keep fish at home, such as koi, then you can enjoy them all year round and not just on angling trips. You need to keep them healthy with koi fish food for sale.

For this article, we want to make sure you’re ready for anything – and have plenty of fun along the way – by listing down the FIVE items, you need for your first fishing trip, from first aid to fishing coolers and beyond!

Ready? Let’s begin!

Item #1 Appropriate clothing and shoes

There isn’t a lot of shade on a boat, so make sure you have all the appropriate clothing and gear to protect you from the scorching sun.

A good pair of polarized sunglasses, some long-sleeved tops, leggings, and gloves reinforced with an Ultraviolet Protection Factor of 50 and above, plus a secured wide-brimmed hat can protect you from unsightly, painful sunburns and sun damage.

At the same time, even when the sun is out, and humidity is at an all-time high, it can still get freezing once you’re in the open sea. The combination of strong winds and cool waters can make the overall temperature drop to a shocking halt. So, make sure you’ve prepared several pieces of clothing that you can layer, such as a windbreaker and several light-colored shirts and pants.

Another thing to consider is the possibility of the boat surface getting too wet and slippery. Avoid accidents by also taking a pair of non-skid rubber-soled shoes with you.

Item #2: First aid kits and medications

You know yourself best, so make sure you don’t take any chances when it comes to your health. Whether it’s for allergies, an unpredictable blood pressure, or what have you, bring all the necessary medications in case you need them.

When you’re having fun, you can get a little carried away. And even if you plan on being very careful, accidents still happen. So, best to make sure you have a first aid kit with you. You can’t be too careful when you’re out at sea — where your miles away from the shore and help can take forever to come!

Item #3: Protection from the elements

Whether it’s from the sun, the rain, or the dry air, make sure you’re protected so you’ll have one less thing to worry about.

An SPF 50 sunscreen is necessary for extra hot days. Remember, sun damage is no laughing matter! Getting fried under the sun’s heat can lead to devastating skin cancers in the future, so it pays to think ahead. Pro tip: do not ignore the importance of protecting the skin around your eyes. The eyelids are also exposed to UV radiation and require quality protection. Hunt for polarized sunglasses that protect your eyes around water by blocking glare and provide better visual acuity.

A lip balm is great for when your lips get too dry from getting wet all day. While that might sound counterintuitive, research shows that persistent moisture on the lips can lead to even more dryness. Don’t be a chapped Nancy and load up on lip balm. Bonus points if it has SPF!

The key here is to do your research. A few days before your trip, look up what the weather will be and pack your essentials accordingly.

Item #4: Fishing gear

Of course, you can’t forget your fishing gear! Get all the basics in order, such as your fishing rods, reels, lines, and tackle bags. Then anticipate what else you may need, including dry bags and waterproof duffel bags.

What you need to take with you depends on the destination and the kind of fish you’re looking to catch. You can also click here for fish finders that are perfect for various styles of fishing.

Item #5: Proper storage

They say winners always win because they come prepared and believe they will win.
So why not throw in some Law of Attraction magic into your trip by bringing proper storage for your future catch?

From collapsible fishing coolers to additional air-tight plastic storage boxes, there is no limit to what you can bring — as long as it’s within reason, of course!
You also can’t forget about water containers. You can’t afford to get dehydrated out at sea. And, no, beer doesn’t count!

And there you have it — the FIVE things you need to stay safe and protected, as well as enjoy the heck out of your fishing trip. Tick each of the items on this list, and you’re guaranteed to thank us later — enjoy!
