7 Types of Hotels for Your Trip to Norway

It is time for your next big vacation. After doing some research, you fall in love with Norway. How could you not? The scenic views of mountains, the ocean, glaciers, auroras, and fjords are breathtaking. You can’t wait to take in the rich culture. The last part of planning your trip is selecting your hotels. No matter your desired budget, aesthetic, or location, you can find the perfect place to stay. Below is a snapshot of the type of accommodations you have to choose from throughout Norway.

Historic

If you love hotels with a rich history and need a hotel Tønsberg, look no further than Hotel Klubben. The hotel was built in 1877 and opened under the name Victoria Hotel. A series of renovations have been done over the years, but the ballroom is still a preserved masterpiece. Walk out the hotel’s front doors right into downtown Tønsberg, Norway’s oldest town.

Boutique

For an amazing boutique experience, consider the Riverside Farm Lodge in Aurland. Staying on a farm called Tokvam will feel straight out of a fairytale. This rural area was originally settled by Vikings. Now, it is home to quaint accommodations influenced by the nearby Aurlandselva river. You can take a small boat out to explore the river or simply enjoy the mountain and garden views from your hot tub.

Unusual

Adventurous travelers should consider checking into the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel in Alta. While there is always a wilderness lodge available at this Arctic location, the igloo experience is only available during the winter season. The ice hotel and its interior features are built with a different theme each year. Highlights include sculptures, ice beds, an ice bar, and even an ice chapel. Don’t forget to plan a snowmobile excursion to view the Northern lights.

Affordable

Don’t fret if you are traveling on a budget. Yess! Hotel Kristiansand is worth a look. It’s a simple, new hotel right in the center of the city. As part of a collection of hotels by Best Western, it is backed by a reputable name. The rooms may be small and basic, but they are clean and have free wifi and breakfast. You will also be within easy walking distance of Kristiansand’s restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. The top attractions in the city are Ravnedalen Nature Park, Dyreparken, and Baneheia.

Luxurious

If luxury is your game, Dalen Hotel is the name. This 5-star hotel in Dalen comes with a high price tag, but it will take your breath away. The immense hotel from 1894 sits on Bandak lake. Historically, it was a popular getaway for European royalty. The stunning architecture boasts towers, balconies, dragon heads, and more. Start your day with a cruise down the canal followed by a hike through the mountains. You can wrap up with a high-end dinner and a glass of wine.

Seaside

There are many seaside hotels in Lovund, but the Lovund Hotell stands out. Hop aboard a speed boat or ferry to reach the vibrant island. You can choose from a room in the main hotel or a fisherman’s cabin. The hotel has a more modern feel and views of the sea from floor to ceiling windows. The bright red cabins which sit right on the sea have a charm of their own. While on the island, hit a few fish food golf balls into the ocean, hike the mountains, visit the puffin colony, and eat the freshest seafood.

Contemporary

While much of Norway has a quaint, charming feel, you can also find many contemporary hotels like the Farris Bad in Larvik. The striking modern building has a dark exterior that offsets the many windows and reddish wood trim. Outdoor amenities include a private beach, patio, and bar. Indoors you can enjoy the plush decor, a spa, pool, and more. The hotel offers incredible views as it juts out over the Larvik Ford. Nearby attractions include the Norwegian naval base and Larvik Museum.

Whether you are looking to hotel hop or stay in one location, you can find the perfect accommodations. From rural to metropolitan, historic to modern, and seaside views to mountains views, Norway truly has hotels for everyone at all price points. Get to planning and enjoy your trip!
