Walking holidays in Spain are a great way to experience the Spanish culture for what it truly is. From walks across the Catalan Coast to Alicante’s rugged mountains, there are so many Spanish holidays to explore with Inntravel.

Whilst on a walking holiday in Spain, you will get to experience delicious cuisine and captivating wildlife that might usual go amiss on all inclusive get away.

Inntravel’s top walking holidays in Spain:

Walking along the Catalan Coast

If you want to discover Catalonia’s quietest coastline, this Inntravel self-guided walking holiday is the one for you. On this holiday you will be able to explore medieval villages and pine-clad hills, relax on quiet coves and sandy beaches, as well as trying tasty seafood dishses a long the way.

This is the perfect walking holiday for first-time walkers, with gentle self-guided routes to follow, you are sure to find your way round in a confident and relaxing manner.

The region is famed for throughout Spain for its gastronomy, with delicious fish specialities to try from authentic restaurants along the way.

On this holiday you will stay in a delightful selection of high-quality family run hotels. Three of the five have a pool, and the two that don’t are located close to the sea, so you can still dip your toes in water!

Lanzarote and La Graciosa

On this holiday, you will explore two islands filled to the brim with stunning landscapes and the sound of waves.

Lanzarote is a redolent of North Africa, but shaped by a Spanish culture, and is famed for the famous artist and architect who once lived there, Cesar Manrique.

Based in Yaiza, well away from the tourist enclaves of the south-east, you can take your pick of a wide selection of gentle or moderate walks all over the island. Some ascend the slopes of volcanoes, while others cross lava fields or explore the island’s unusual vineyards. There are ridge walks and descents through deserted valleys that end at delightful seafront restaurants, as well as coastal walks (both on Lanzarote and neighbouring La Graciosa – the eighth Canary Island) on which the only sound is that of the waves pounding the black volcanic rocks.

On this walking holiday you will stay at a hotel called Casona de Yaiza, a hotel on the edge on the Timanfaya National Park. So, you feel like you are in the middle of the countryside, yet the hotel is located just a short walk from Yaiza’s main square.

Cities of the Spanish South

On this Spanish walking holiday, you will be able to explore the fascinating cities of Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Jerez and Cadiz. On this self-guided city walking tour, you be able to revel in the rich history and laid-back history there is on offer at these places.

So many of the things we associate with Spain – mouthwatering tapas, fiery flamenco, colourful fiestas, and crisp, deliciously dry sherry – trace their roots to Andalucia, in the sun-soaked south of the country. This is also where you’ll find many of the most captivating Spanish cities, all of which combine rich and varied cultural heritages with excellent gastronomy and a seductively laid-back southern vibe.

On this Spanish walking holiday you will stay in five stunning hotels with breakfast included. There is also the option to add extra night onts to the holiday, and as there is so much to see it is certainly recommended!

Walking in Spain is very different to walking in the UK, and you might have to pack a few different things compared to a UK holiday. What to pack for walking in Spain:

  • Sunscreen – If you don’t wear and take sunscreen with you on your walking route, the likelihood of burning is very high. So, stay protected and avoid burning! It can make for a very uncomfortable holiday if you let this slide.
  • Hat – Similar to wearing sunscreen, a hat is needed to protect your scalp from UBV rays. It can also protect you against heatstroke.
  • Sunglasses – There is nothing worse than walking through beautiful scenery only to have to squint because the sun is in your eyes. Not only will you get a better view of your surrounding by wearing sunglasses, but your face will be protected even more for the sun.
  • Water and snacks – Whilst walking in Spain, you probably have the sun beaming down on you, and therefore, that chances of becoming dehydrated are high! Ensuring you have plenty of water with you is a must, and it might be worth checking from pit spots along the way just in case you need some more. Taking snacks with you is also essential, walking can take a lot of energy from you and snacks will help you refuel.
  • A small first aid kit – Whether you are walking in the UK or in Spain, you should take a small first aid kit with you that includes things such as plasters, bandages, insect repellent, antiseptic wipes, safety pics and antibiotic treatment.
  • A light overshirt – If you are walking on a relatively hot day, taking a light overshirt with you can work in a number of ways. It can be used as head scarf to protect you from the sun, it can be used as a shawl to stop your shoulders from burning, and it can be put on fully, just in case it gets a little chilly!
  • Walking poles – The terrain in Spain varies depending on which walking holiday you choose to go on, but if you choose somewhere like Alicante’s Rugged Mountain, the terrain might be more challenging to walk on, and walking pole will help you along the way.

So, which Inntravel holiday will you go for? Whether you opt for the Catalan Coast of the cities of Spanish South, make sure you pack correctly and of course, enjoy!
