Safety Tips for First Time Solo Women Travelers

  • April 20, 2021
  • Jules

Solo traveling is undoubtedly one of the best ways for women travellers to explore the world and be more empowered and confident as travellers. There is absolutely no doubt in the fact that solo traveling is an incredible life experience. However, that does not mean that you have to be reckless in your decision or do things you would not do when at home. Thus, it is quintessential for you to find a balance between safe traveling and making some good memories. Let us get started and address a few safety tips that you need to bear in mind to make the most of your solo travel.

Before going anywhere, research well

‘Whenever you travel to any new place, it is pivotal to do some research. Today, in the age of the Internet, you can learn everything about a location literally before going there. Read the stories or personal accounts of people who have been there, get your doubts cleared on Facebook groups or Instagram pages, and do every little research before going,’ comments Sana, an educator who offers the best financial modeling courses.

In addition to everything mentioned by Sana, you also need to read about a few other things. These include the bad areas, weather, current political situation, natural disasters, cultural norms, scams, dress code, unrest, and every other thing before you visit a new location. Please understand that every new destination will feel different than your own country. So, overcome all the scary assumptions, and educate yourself on the facts.

Do not flash your valuables.

‘Well, even though it is obvious, there are times when you unknowingly flash your valuables. But, you should not. There are thieves and pickpockets in crowded tourist areas, and they will usually target people who have expensive cameras hanging around their necks. Thus, it is advised for women to take only the gadgets you will be using,’ advises Tanya, an educator who offers online ‘do my assignment‘ services and loves taking herself on solo trips.

Well, in addition to the cameras, you should also be careful about your phone, wallets, and bags. Even big cities, such as London and Amsterdam, have issues of phones being grabbed out of hands if you are not attentive. Of course, being paranoid will not help, but use your best judgment. Common sense can take you a long way.

Start Small

‘As a many-time solo woman traveller, myself, I would always recommend other women to start with their own country. They can first try a solo trip to any location nearby, and only after they have acquired some experience should they plan an international trip,’ states Jessica, an educator with TAE who offers online exam help for students.

Ensure that your arrival is scheduled during daylight

‘For several travellers, their, first stop after reaching the destination is the hostel or the hotel. We recommend booking your flights in a manner that you reach in the mid-afternoon,’ advises Rosy, an online educator who offers ‘do my programming homework services.

Let us explain what Rosy means to say here. When you arrive in the daytime, it will help you figure out the area where you will be staying during your vacation. If the area is safe, it will look better during daylight. On the other hand, if you are in an unsafe area, it will only be worse during the daytime. Moreover, in the daylight, it is easier for you to find your accommodation. If you do not like it, you have enough time to look for something else.

But there are more very practical reasons to arrive during daylight as well. You will be able to find your accommodation more quickly, and if you don’t like it, you will have time to make other arrangements.

Always pack light

Trust us when we say this; you will not only save yourself a lot of money but be more mobile if you pack light. Honestly, it takes a lot of planning to carry a wardrobe, which can cater to all days of the vacation, from hiking adventures to clubbing and lounging days.

You can pick a base colour, such as navy, beige, brown, or black, along with a contrast colour, such as beige or white, and a colour or two to accessorize and pull the whole thing together.

So, these are the five most quintessential tips that every woman solo traveller should bear in mind. Have any solo travel experiences to share? Let us know in the comment box below. We would love to hear from you.
