  • April 11, 2017
  • admin

When the weather turns bad during your vacation, you can spend a whole day sitting in your room with nothing but the television to entertain you. If you’re camping, you are stuck in your tent. It can turn into a long boring day if you have nothing to do but snack on trail mix. Fortunately, there is a solution to your dilemma.

Games

Adults and children can relieve their boredom in numerous ways. Board games can be fun, challenging, and help the time seem to go by faster. From Chess to Monopoly to Pictionary, there is sure to be a few games that you and your companions or family will enjoy. Many games come in compact travel sizes making them easier to pack in a suitcase or tuck into a backpack. Card games are also popular, and some can be played alone and some with other players. Check with your hotel to see if they have a game room with game tables, such as ping pong, chess, and foosball.

Phone And Tablet Apps

Technology comes to the rescue with fun apps for your phone and tablet to help you escape the elements and have an enjoyable day. Word games are lots of fun and challenge your vocabulary, and you can choose from a large selection including Words with Friends, Befuddled, Scrabble, Wordle, and Word Solitaire. For the creative person, mandala coloring pages will give you pleasure for hours as you color the intricate designs with this artistic app.

Local Library

The local library is a great place to explore on a rainy day. There will information on the area’s history, brochures and maps for points of interest, magazines, the local paper, art exhibits, and children’s programs. You can easily spend several hours in a library. Some libraries have a free book shelf where you might find a book by one of your favorite authors. Although it’s not necessary, it’s a nice gesture to put some money in the donation jar to help the library pay for its free programs. While there, ask about good restaurants where the locals eat.

Do What The Locals Do

You can go out for pizza and then to a movie, take the kids to a bounce house, visit local museums, or go shopping. Depending on the are you are visiting, there may be historic homes open for tours. You may also find an art gallery, a climbing wall, a bowling alley, or an indoor playground and activity center. Take rainy day photographs all around the area. Pose with umbrellas, ponchos, and other rain gear in front of different points of interest. If you’re near a beach, go swimming in the rain. If you have children with you, have a sand castle building contest. The sand packs nicely when it’s wet.

Vacations are for a change of pace and having fun with family or friends. If you experience some inclement weather on your vacation, don’t let the rain get you down. Look through these suggestions, and enjoy your rainy day.
