So the winners of the 2011 Oscars have been announced and if the film locations have inspired you then why not visit them this year;
1. The King’s Speech – UK – One of the biggest winners at the 2011 Oscars, The King’s Speech won Best Picture, Best Actor for Colin Firth and Best Original Screenplay. Some famous London landmarks were featured in the film including Battersea Power Station, Harley Street and the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. There were also some other stunning locations used for filming such as Ely Cathedral (in the place of Westminster Abbey), Hatfield House in Hertfordshire and gothic mansion Knebworth House in Stevenage.
2. Inception – World – Slick, stylish and sometimes confusing, 4 times Oscar winner Inception flits around the world, with Tangiers in Morocco, Tokyo in Japan and Paris in France all featuring in the film.
3. In A Better World – Denmark – The winner of the Best Foreign Language Film, travels from an African refugee camp (shot in Kenya) to a provincial Danish town, which was filmed around Fåborg, Rudkøbing on the island of Langeland and Svendborg on the island of Funen in central Denmark.
4. Social Network – USA – Visit Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts where Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and take a guided tour of the university that features in Social Network and won three Oscars.
5. The Wolfman – UK – Winner of the Achievement In Make-up went to the 1941 remake of The Wolfman which was filmed on location in the UK at Castle Combe in Wiltshire, the exterior of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire was featured as was the baroque Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London (again!)
6. The Fighter – USA – The winner of 2 Oscars, The Fighter is the story of an Irish-American boxer from Lowell in Massachusetts and filming took place in the town’s West End Gym and also at the Tsongas Centre Arena.
