How to Sleep Like a Baby in Hotels

Picture the scene; you’ve just checked into your hotel room after a long drive and want to get some serious shut eye but the neighbors are watching TV at full volume and are shouting over the top of the noise – nightmare! For those travelers not staying in a hotel that is patrolled by sleep wardens, follow these tips to ensure you wake up rested and ready to go;

Hotel booking – Do a bit of research before booking your hotel stay and find out whether the hotel is near a major road or airport. Phone ahead and ask if there are any parties or functions booked and make sure you get a room well away from the action. Ask if the hotel runs a ‘party waiver’ scheme where guests are requested to be quiet after a certain time and will lose their deposit if too noisy.

Check in – Request a room at the end of a hallway and away from lifts, ice machines and stairways to avoid listening to footfall all night.

Make yourself at home – Do as you would at home in order to fall asleep; take a warm bath, avoid caffeine and if it really helps then take along you own pillow. And make sure you use your ‘do not disturb’ sign.

Pack the earplugs – If you’re a light sleeper then taking your own earplugs, eye mask and any prescribed medication will all help.

Call reception – If noisy neighbors are keeping you awake then put a call in to reception where they can make a polite phone call but don’t approach other guests about their noise yourself.
