How To Get The Best Travel Insurance Deal

  • September 14, 2009

Travel insurance is an essential travel item, as the costs for medical attention abroad can be huge. So whether your next holiday involves lazing on a beach or an adventure holiday getaway, follow our tips to stay safe and save money;

1. If you go on a few holidays or short breaks each year, then do consider an annual policy, which often works out cheaper and saves you time.

2. Joint travel insurance policies, with your partner and any children are also a more cost effective option to look into.

3. Make sure your insurance company knows about any medical conditions you may have otherwise your policy may not be valid.

4. Use comparison websites to get a feel for the policies out there and the prices around.

5. Check and compare the excess amounts on your policy as this will vary between providers. You might also be able to pay more to waiver the excess.

6. Do check what you’re actually getting in the actual policy – price isn’t always everything.

7. Check what activities and sports are covered, especially if you’re planning on a spot of elephant polo or the odd ostrich ride!

8. Ensure you have enough cancellation cover for the cost of your holiday.

9. If your policy comes with a 24 hour helpline number (and all goods ones should) make sure you keep the number somewhere when on your trip.

10. Photocopy your policy and any contact details and make sure your partner takes a copy and leave one at home, just in case.
