Méribel Après-Ski: What to Do Off the Slopes in Méribel

  • August 1, 2024
  • Robert

Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, Méribel is renowned not just for its world-class skiing but also for its vibrant après-ski scene. As the sun sets behind the snow-capped peaks, the village comes alive with an array of activities that cater to both thrill-seekers and those seeking relaxation. Whether you’re winding down after an exhilarating day on the slopes or looking for alternative adventures, Méribel offers a plethora of options that make it the ultimate après-ski destination.

The Best Restaurants in Méribel for Après-Ski

Méribel’s culinary scene is a delightful blend of traditional Alpine fare and gourmet international cuisine. For a truly luxurious dining experience, Le Cepe is a must-visit. This elegant restaurant offers a sophisticated menu that celebrates the flavours of the region, with dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. The ambience is cosy yet refined, perfect for a romantic dinner or a special celebration.

Another standout is L’Ekrin, the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Méribel. Chef Laurent Azoulay creates culinary masterpieces that blend innovation with tradition. The exquisite tasting menus, paired with an extensive wine list, promise an unforgettable dining experience.

For a more casual yet equally delightful option, La Fromagerie is a charming spot where you can indulge in classic Savoyard dishes like raclette and fondue, ideal for a hearty meal after a day in the cold.

One of the newer restaurants, yet more than deserving a mention is Maya Altitude. It’s a great place in the mountains to enjoy fine food and finer views. It’s best to go on a Thursday, the weekly live music day, to get an all-round treat for the senses. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Best Bars in Méribel for Après-Ski

The après-ski bar scene in Méribel is legendary, offering everything from lively pubs to sophisticated lounges. La Folie Douce is perhaps the most famous, where the party starts on the slopes with live music and DJ sets and continues well into the evening. It’s the perfect spot to sip on champagne while dancing in your ski boots.

For a more intimate setting, Le Poste de Secours offers a chic, laid-back atmosphere with a great selection of cocktails and fine wines. This stylish bar is a favourite among locals and visitors alike, providing a warm and welcoming vibe.

If you’re in the mood for something unique, head to Bar L’Igloo, an ice bar where you can enjoy a drink in an igloo-like setting. It’s a truly magical experience, especially when the village is blanketed in snow.

Best Winter Events in Méribel

Méribel hosts a variety of events throughout the ski season that add to its allure as a premier après-ski destination. Alongside the expected Christmas festivities, my favourite highlights are:

Meribel Lights kicks off the events calendar in December, an audiovisual spectacle that’s one of the highlights of the entire European ski season. Each year a fresh perspective is taken, building and improving upon the simple idea of a start-of-season light show and music night.

The Franglish Comedy Festival at the end of January is a celebration of English and French comedy, with shows in either and sometimes both languages. It’s a unique and wonderful event that brings people closer together and lips further apart, as laughter roars across the 3 Valleys. The main shows take place at the Meribel Auditorium theatre, but there are smaller comedy gigs all around the town for the week.

The Best Activities in Méribel other than Skiing

Beyond bars, restaurants and events, Méribel offers a range of activities to suit all tastes. My personal favourite thing to do is relax, and there’s no better way to do that than with a tailored treatment plan at a private spa in a luxury chalet. Having treatments customised to your aches and pains over the course of a week leaves you feeling brand new. The fountain of youth may be a myth, but saunas, hot tubs and ice baths are real.

For something more adventurous, try your hand at ice climbing or paragliding. There’s something extra special about paragliding over the Alps in winter and seeing skiers slalom down the slopes. It’s a unique experience everyone should try at least once.

Throw a Party at Your Luxury Chalet in Méribel

One of the best ways to enjoy après-ski in Méribel is by hosting a private party at your luxury chalet. Imagine unwinding in a hot tub with a glass of champagne, surrounded by friends and family, while a private chef prepares a gourmet feast. Luxury chalets like those offered by Firefly Collection come equipped with all the amenities you need for an unforgettable evening, including spacious living areas, state-of-the-art kitchens, and stunning mountain views.

Whether you prefer an intimate gathering or a lavish celebration, a luxury chalet provides the perfect setting for an exclusive après-ski experience. Personalised services such as in-house massages, wine tastings, and bespoke entertainment can be arranged to ensure your stay is nothing short of spectacular.
