Home to 29 golf courses, Hilton Head Island is an excellent destination for those who take pleasure in the game. One of the most renowned golf resorts on the island is Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, which features three award-winning courses, as well as condos, villas, and vacation rentals.
In 2023, the Robert Trent Jones course was named among the “Best Courses You Can Play in South Carolina” by Golfweek. The panoramic views of the ocean make a round of golf here one of the most memorable experiences in the area. Moreover, the George Fazio course, the only par-70 public golf course on the island, is regarded as the most challenging course in Hilton Head. The Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Dunes has recently been named among the “Top 30 Best Courses You Can Play in South Carolina.”
While in the past, the caddies at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort would carry a player’s bag and clubs, repair divots, and rake bunkers, today, the resort benefits from a fleet of autonomous golf caddie units known as the “Tempo Walk” by Club Car. It offers state-of-the-art wireless technology, such as GPS yardage and hands-free remote control, to maneuver with ease around the course, allowing golfers the enjoyment of walking, enhancing play, and fostering health and wellness.
Palmetto Dune has 12 units available for players. Built with a sturdy aluminum frame, Tempo Walk has a lithium-ion battery that holds a 36-hole charge. It can move up to 7 mph and weighs 95 pounds.
“We are delighted to introduce this enhancement to the Palmetto Dunes golf experience. It is already generating quite a buzz from our resort guests and our staff also enjoys using the technology,” said Palmetto Dunes Director of Golf Clark Sinclair upon introducing the fleet of autonomous caddie units.
Equipped with a compact frame size, four Tempo Walk golf caddies fit into the space of one golf car, which is another benefit for golf course operators. A nominal upcharge is added to the average golf rates at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort for the use of the Tempo Walk.
Club Car has been one of the most acclaimed names in the golf industry for over 50 years. The Club Car product portfolio has expanded significantly beyond golf cars, now comprising golf and commercial utility vehicles, multi-passenger shuttle vehicles, rough-terrain and off-road utility vehicles, and street-legal low-speed vehicles catering to both commercial and consumer markets.
In addition to the Tempo Walk, golfers enjoying Palmetto Dunes’ trio of courses can also pedal from hole to hole. At the first resort in the Carolinas and along the East Coast to offer the ingenious Golf Bike, visitors can boost their calorie-burning quotient while teeing it up on the South’s most picturesque and challenging golf courses.
Palmetto Dunes also has a modern fleet of golf carts produced by Club Car. The fleets include golf carts equipped with GPS and also USB ports to charge cell phones and play music, all designed to suit a golfer’s enjoyment and functionality.
“The Tempo Walk further underscores our commitment to move the game of golf forward, particularly for the thousands of golf courses that attract a significant number of health-conscious walkers and are looking to generate a new revenue stream for their operation,” said Mark Wagner, president of Club Car.
Condé Nast Traveler has recently acknowledged Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort as the No. 13 “Best Resort in the South.”
