Don’t Commit These Mistakes When You’re Visiting Cancun

  • October 3, 2023
  • Jules

Cancun is one of those places that has something for everyone. Most people refer to it as an all-inclusive holiday location.

There are so many things to do in Cancun and so many places to visit. Rest assured, a trip to this Mexican beach town is one you won’t forget ever.

However, as with other locations, you would do well to keep yourself in check with some smart-traveling techniques.

Here are some of the most common mistakes holidayers make in Cancun. Do well to avoid them at all costs.

Using Taxis

In your best interest, avoid all the taxis you see immediately when you step out of the airport. As a matter of fact, you should avoid them all throughout your trip as well.

Taxi transportation is incredibly expensive. You do not want to start off your holiday with a hefty bill.

Your best option would be to take a bus. You won’t have as much privacy, but you sure will have a swell time. You get to ride through the city without paying a lot.

Often, if you’ve booked a hotel beforehand, you’re likely to get free transportation to and from the airport.

Exchanging Money At The Airport

You will need cash during your stay in Cancun, but the airport merchants are not your best options for exchanging currencies.

You’ll not get great rates with them. Aside from this, you’re likely to be cheated by fraudsters looking to devour new and inexperienced visitors.

There are kiosks in town that’ll offer you better rates with fewer risks. If you can, have your money converted before you head down to Cancun.

Not Associating With Anyone Else

It’s okay to bask in your solitude; you can enjoy your trip as a party of one. However, if you’re in Cancun for enjoyment, do not hesitate to mix in with the crowd. Both locals and tourists alike blend in perfectly, and together, they create the perfect experience for everyone.

Also, you’re more likely to get better hosting at your hotel if you’re familiar with the staff. Break out your most friendly attitude in Cancun. You’ll get better prices, too.

Drinking Any And Every Water

Cancun is a beach town, which means there’s water almost everywhere. However, not all of that is safe for consumption.

If you’ve got a weak stomach, only stick with bottled water. Avoid the faucets, the tap, and pretty much every other source. Find a supermarket and stock up on bottles of water that’ll last your entire trip.

Not Packing Appropriate Clothes

Cancun’s nightlife is one of the thrills that make it a popular choice for tourists. Regardless, the worst mistake you can make is stocking your luggage with only nightwear. You’d miss out on all the fascinating events that go on when the sun is up.

Aside from this, the weather might also not be favorable for your bare skin. If you visit in August through February, the chilly and rainy weather will likely keep you indoors for most of the day. Pack clothes that are appropriate for the season of your visit.

Only Touring The Sites You Found On Google

Google knows everything, but when it comes to holidays, the locals know better. There are many landmarks in Cancun that may or may not be featured on Google. Your best shot at a once-in-a-lifetime experience would be to get a local tour guide to show you all the sweet spots. Do not leave Cancun until you’re 100% certain you’ve seen all there is to see.

Throwing Caution To The Wind

Don’t let the fun get into your head so much that you forget to remain security conscious. There are dangerous people in every corner of the world, and Cancun is no exception. Even though the crime rate in this beautiful beach town is low, you’d do well to adhere to the following precautions:

  • Don’t wander off alone
  • Don’t get drunk and pass out on the street
  • Stick to populated areas if you do not have a tour guide
  • Don’t walk around with too much cash
  • Don’t start fights with the locals

Wrapping Up

Your visit to Cancun will be a memorable one, for sure. The nightlife is amazing, the food is great, the people are friendly, and the sightseeing opportunities are plenty.

We’ve outlined common mistakes people make. Do well to avoid them, so your stay in Cancun will be memorable in a good way.
