Many people who are on the way to Australia or New Zealand decide to stop off for a few days in Bangkok and who could blame them? Of course, you need a lot more time than a few days to really enjoy Thailand, but if a few days are all you have in terms of time, here is our short guide to a short stay in the City of Angels.
Choose a small boutique hotel
There is a brand new 5-star hotel on Sukhumvit 24 with affordable rates and luxury décor, with spa and fitness facilities to pamper you while you are in the city of Bangkok, which is the capital of spa treatments. Google can help you to get the cheapest deals at the best boutique hotels, plus booking online is cheaper than a walk-in.
Getting around
Bangkok has a great road infrastructure and while rush hour traffic can be horrendous, there are other ways to get around, namely the BTS and Sky Train, which covers most areas of the city. There are thousands of taxis servicing Bangkok, and you can hail one by standing at the side of the road and raising your hand. Other ways to get around the city include canal taxis, which are electric and motorcycle taxis, which offer a thrilling experience.
Research online
Prior to arriving in Thailand, you can carry out some research in order to plan your stay in Bangkok. We recommend the first day as a rest day when you can relax in your boutique hotel and get rid of the jet lag. Plan each day as much as you can using the Internet and you should see more of the local attractions. Here are a few tips on planning your next holiday destination.
Changing money
When you arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport, don’t change any more than $50, which is enough to get you into the city, where there are Super Rich exchange booths (they offer the best rates). It should be noted that every time you withdraw cash from an ATM, there are changes of around 220 baht. It soon adds up and with some careful planning, you can avoid these charges.
Vaping is illegal
This might confuse you when you see street vendors selling vape pens; the reason vape pens are illegal is because there is no tax category as of yet. If you vape, don’t bring a device with you, acquire one when here and leave it behind when you leave. You might see people openly vaping, but you are taking a chance if you do that.
The weed situation
It seems there is a lot of confusion regarding recreational weed; it is legal? There are weed shops everywhere selling prime bud and people sit and smoke openly in their establishment. We don’t recommend you smoke weed in public places, be discreet and minimise the risk of a major issue.
