6 sensational proposal spots in England

  • May 11, 2023
  • Jules

Are you intending to pop the question this year?

There are so many things to consider when planning a proposal – not least finding the perfect engagement ring for your other half. Should the event tie in with a significant moment like Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve? Do you need to dress up and hire a videographer? Is it better to give a grand gesture or keep the mood relaxed?

As each couple is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all arrangement for getting engaged. However, with options to suit everyone, England promises to be a spectacular setting for your proposal whether you want to pop the question atop a mountain, overlooking the ocean, or relaxing in a rooftop restaurant with glittering city views.

Make sure your question is one they can’t refuse by wowing your partner with one of these six sensational proposal spots in England.

Wastwater, Lake District

Previously voted the best view in the UK, Wastwater is a dramatic lake in the Lake District National Park. This vast waterbody is surrounded by striking peaks including towering Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. For the active and adventurous, this is an unmatched proposal spot.

Durdle Door, Dorset

Another spectacular waterside location for popping the question is Durdle Door in Dorset. Part of the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline in the south of England, this natural limestone arch curves out into the ocean creating a sheltered sandy cove. The stunning sea view is at its best at dawn and dusk.

Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire

Keen to find something more private? Seek shelter in the fairy-tale Forest of Dean, said to have inspired several of Tolkien’s settings in his revered Lord of the Rings trilogy. This ancient forest in the Wye Valley conceals pretty streams, enchanting evergreen trees, and beautiful bluebells in spring.

Aysgarth Falls, Yorkshire Dales

Running for almost one mile through Wensleydale, Aysgarth Falls is a triple-flight waterfall surrounded by pretty woodland in the heart of the idyllic Yorkshire Dales National Park. This is a nice easy stroll suited to all fitness levels, and there are private proposal spots around every corner.

Chatsworth House, Derbyshire

For a truly spectacular backdrop for your proposal, look no further than Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Most impressive during the summer when the roses are in full bloom, this ornate, art-filled historic home and its sprawling landscaped estate is effortlessly romantic at every turn.

Madison, London

Contrasting but equally dramatic is the buzzing rooftop restaurant Madison in the centre of England’s capital city. With supreme views of London including a close-up of stately St. Paul’s Cathedral, this is a magical spot for popping the question – especially at sunset or after dark. You can celebrate by toasting the moment with a bottle of champagne from the bar.
