Reasons why Mallorca is Top Destination for Brits

  • January 3, 2023
  • Robert

Mallorca has always been popular among Brits, but have you ever wondered why is it the number one destination for holidays or living? Well, there are many reasons, including the climate and ideal costs. With an approximate population of more than 900,000, Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands in Spain; more precisely, the largest of them, just as its name suggests. Almost half of Mallorca’s population lives in Palma, the capital city of the island. The island’s airport is one of the busiest in Spain, as around 2.3 million Brits visit it annually – and the number is only increasing. Mallorca is also an excellent property investment place, and over 20 000 Brits have become the island’s residents. Let’s explore in detail the reasons why this destination is a top choice for Brits.

Ideal climate

Mallorca has mild winters and perfect summers that aren’t very hot. The weather is colder in January, but not much later, the island becomes a sea of white and rose. The first two months of Autumn are warm, but November is also ideal for sunbathing. Except for July and August – the hottest months in Mallorca- tourists can enjoy outdoor activities like cycling, sailing and hiking the entire year.

Low costs for property

In Mallorca, the prices of properties for sale have fallen considerably over the years, making it easier for British buyers to purchase a home. Even if you’re on a small budget, finding a good value property in Mallorca is indeed possible. Plus, the island’s real estate market is mature, and the buying and selling process is straightforward and convenient. There are also many skilled real estate agents and professional legal advisors that can help you find the house of your dreams. Whether you need support for the legal process or home maintenance, the real estate industry in Mallorca has everything in place.

Safety

Regarding safe regions in Spain, Mallorca is at the top of the list. While it’s true that home robberies are more common now, the island is still safe compared to other regions, such as the South of France. Walking the streets alone is generally safe; however, criminal gangs target touristy zones like large shopping centres and Palma’s old town.

Lack of language barriers

While it’s always an advantage to know the native language, not speaking Spanish isn’t a barrier in Mallorca. As long as you speak German or English, you can communicate properly with a service provider. Many of those who have become residents of Mallorca have started a business for a living, and the foreign clientele matters a lot to them, so they don’t limit themselves only to the Spanish language.

The infrastructure

Mallorca has become popular ever since the 50s, so the island started investing in infrastructure quite early. Thus, it’s not surprising that today, Mallorca’s airport has connections with nearly all European capitals at competitive prices. The healthcare system is well-developed, with hospitals and clinics adhering to international health standards and even offering a translation service to non-natives. As far as education is concerned, children can go to one of the various International Schools in Mallorca, which use curriculums from the UK, Sweden, Germany, and France. Alternatively, parents can send their children to private Spanish schools known for their spotless reputation.
