If you are planning to tie the knot and you have yet to decide on a honeymoon destination, this is the right article for you, as it offers an alternative to the traditional resort in the sun, namely taking a luxury train journey through stunning regions of Europe. It might surprise you to learn that there are quite a few epic train routes that run through Europe and here are a few examples.

Grand Alpine Express

The famous Golden Eagle Danube Express is a luxurious locomotive that sets off from Budapest and ends in Venice, with stop offs at Vienna, Lake Achen, Innsbruck, Zurich, Lake Como, Milan, Verona, Trieste and Lake Bled. If you love mountains, this is the honeymoon for you!

The Habsburg Express

This epic journey starts at Vienna, the jewel of Europe, stopping at Salzburg, Lake Bled, Rijeka, Sarajevo, Mostar and finishing in Dubrovnik. A 7-night journey allows breath-taking views of southern Europe; you couldn’t find a more romantic place to spend your honeymoon. The great thing about luxury rail holidays is the first-rate accommodation that you and your bride will enjoy.

Central Europe On The Golden Eagle Express

This is a 6-night excursion that departs the colourful city of Prague and stops at Krakow, Poprad, Kosice, Keszthely, and finishes in Budapest. The holiday begins with a guided tour of Prague and the second day includes a tour of the salt mines at Krakow, which contains a spectacular underground cathedral. At Poprad, you change to a narrow-gauge train that takes you on a journey through the mountains. In the evening, you rejoin the Golden Eagle Express.

Balkan Explorer

It’s an amazing 11-night excursion of the Balkan region that starts in Venice and arrives in Istanbul 11 days later. Take in the wonders of Trieste, a town in Northern Italy, where you board the Golden Eagle Danube Express to continue the journey. The next port of call is the vibrant city of Ljubljana, where you enjoy a morning tour of the various markets and in the afternoon, tour the magical Predjama Castle, which is located on a cliff that overlooks Carniola. After a wonderful evening of local arts and music and a good night’s sleep, the train pulls into Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia. Here you will visit the tunnel museum with artefacts from the brutal war from 1992-1996, after which you travel by coach to Mostar, an important city of the Ottoman Empire.

Transylvanian Castles

If you are enchanted by Transylvania, this tour of the best castles is definitely for you. The journey begins at Istanbul, then onto Veliko Tarnovo, Sinaia, Brasov, Sighisoara, Sibiu, Kecskemet, Lajosmisze, and finally arriving at Budapest 7 days after the start of the journey.
