Swimwear And More: What To Pack For Australia

  • October 7, 2022
  • Jules

Australia is one of the most popular holiday destinations for travelers looking for outdoor summer activities to do all in one place. The country has everything to offer. From its diverse landscapes, weather, food, and local culture, Australia has it all.

And so, when planning to experience Australia, you must pack your essentials to make your trip hassle-free. You don’t want to stress yourself out looking for items you need only to realize that you left them behind. While swimwear might be an instant item in your luggage, you can pack some other items to make your journey down under a fun yet practical experience.

That said, here’s what to pack for Australia:

  1. Australian Power Adapter

Be sure to bring an Australian power adapter to keep your electronic and digital devices charged for your trip. It is the one compatible with the country’s plug type I and has three pins in a triangular shape.

In addition, you might also want to bring along a universal power adapter that includes USB ports if you have devices such as portable speakers with USB charging cables.

This way, you can rest easy knowing that you can charge your electronic devices while in the country. You never know, you might run out of battery because you’ve been taking photos of your trip to post on your social media accounts. So, bringing a power adapter compatible with Australia’s plug type should be on your list.

  1. Swimwear

If you’re headed down under for the summer, there’s a high chance you’ll need swimwear to flaunt that body on the beach. Many Australian cities and holiday hubs are located near picturesque beaches and coastlines.

It will give you plenty of opportunities for swimming, lounging, and sunbathing by the pools and beaches. So, bring along your bathers from brands such as Bydee Australia Swimwear to look chic and fit while enjoying the heart of the sun on the beach.

  1. Filtered Water Bottle

It’s best to stay hydrated in Australia because summer temperatures can get very hot, and as a tourist, it’s easy to lose track of drinking water during outdoor activities. While there are plenty of restaurants and shops to buy water, Australia’s tap water is safe to drink.

Thus, you can draw water from any tap from water fountains and take it with you when you go hiking or to the beach, for instance. In this case, you might want to pack a filtered reusable water bottle flask to keep the water cool and make it taste better after a long day of adventuring.

  1. Portable Charger

In the same way an adapter can keep your devices charged when you’re in your accommodation room, you should also bring a portable charger or power bank. It will keep your electronic devices recharged while you’re on the go and away from an electric outlet during your trips to go camping and backpacking.

Many come in small pocket sizes for your convenience. These portable chargers can be attached to your phone, Bluetooth speaker, or action camera using a power cable to a USB port. If you’re willing to spend more, you can opt for the wireless portable chargers, but these will only work for your smartphone and may cost you extra.

  1. Sunscreen

As previously mentioned, Australia has a scorching hot climate in the summer, especially in the northern states. It, coupled with receiving intense and direct sunlight during hikes, beach days, and walking tours, means the sunscreen will come in handy for skin protection.

When choosing a sunscreen, try to aim for a broad-spectrum one with an SPF of 35 at a minimum to give your skin the best coverage. Furthermore, since Australia is a conservation-focused nation, consider bringing sunscreen that doesn’t contain harmful chemicals that can be transferred to marine wildlife when swimming in the ocean.

  1. Casual Clothing

Many travelers venturing to Australia make the mistake of overpacking when most of the country’s conditions permit lightweight clothes that are versatile and quick to wash. These can be shorts, jeans or long trousers, a rain jacket, camisoles, T-shirts, and sweatshirts that can all be layered.

If you plan on hiking or camping, you can add a pair of practical athleisure wears to the pack. As for footwear, flip-flops and sneakers will help you transition into the many kinds of weather and terrain changes.

  1. Over-The-Counter Medication

It’s always a good idea to pack a few basic medications with you in case you need them during your trip. These may include allergy medication, jet lag remedies like melatonin, activated charcoal for food poisoning or upset stomach, and painkillers.

Just be sure to check Australia’s customs and border entry requirements for importing medications. Most OTC medications won’t need a permit, while others need to be declared when you arrive.

  1. A Sun Hat

If there’s one fashion accessory to bring to Australia, it’s a functional sun hat. It will give you an extra layer of protection by keeping direct sunlight from your face and eyes.

While caps may be stylish and casual, it’s best not to use them for outdoor travel as they don’t provide enough coverage for your upper body. In this case, choose a sun hat that covers your ears and neck—one with a wide brim, or a bucket hat without any perforations.

Conclusion

Packing for Australia entails preparing for the hot weather and changing temperatures. To be ready for any activity, you can bring beach comforts like sunscreen, swimwear, and sun hats. For outside excursions, water bottles, portable chargers, and reusable water bottles are a must-have.

Casualwear should be sufficient for inland tours, off-coast adventures, and city life. Bring these essentials to your Australian getaway, and you’ll be just fine for your trip.
