Visiting the US Open

The biggest match in professional tennis is known as the US Open, or United States Open Tennis Championships. The US Open has served as the Grand Slam’s fourth and final tennis tournament since 1987. The Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon are the other three major competitions. Every year, the US Open is played (the weeks before and after Labor Day weekend) over the course of two weeks in August and September.  It takes place at the Flushing Meadows National Tennis Center of the USTA (United States Tennis Association).

The U.S. National Singles Championship, as it was then known, predates the U.S. Open by one year, to 1881. It was a men-only competition back then, and it took place in Rhode Island. With more than 600 participants and nearly $7 million in rewards since then, the competition has expanded to include both men and women. The US Open is the biggest stage in tennis, with thousands of spectators to watch the final Grand Slam match and hundreds of players to compete. Several American and international stations broadcasts this event.

The US Open attracts more than 700,000 spectators annually, making it the most popular yearly sporting event in the world. There are numerous championships during the event. Men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles are the five event titles that make up the main tournament. Senior, junior, and wheelchair players can also compete in separate tournaments.

Tennis matches are played at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day. During the US Open, a number of locations on the tennis grounds of the USTA National Tennis Complex are used. US Open tickets go on sale to the general public in early June on platforms like Cheapo Ticketing, but American Express Card members frequently have access to early tickets. Tickets for The Grounds Pass are a reasonably priced method to witness a lot of tennis. Grounds admission is Only for the first eight days of the competition are open to the public, at which time they can watch matches that are played on the field courts, in the Grandstand, and in some of Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Public transportation is the most convenient way to go to the US Open. Driving is not advised because of the parking limitations and traffic jams brought on by the US Open and the proximity of Shea Stadium and the Mets.
