If you were to ask your kids what toys they would like to take on the airplane with them, they are likely to ask for all of their cars, 50% of their dolls, those animatronic Jurassic dinosaurs and a couple of footballs too. Naturally we are exaggerating somewhat here, but parents know that kids will and do ask for as much as they can take. Parents also know that these requests are not possible given a lack of space, so what exactly are the best toys for kids to take on their vacations? Let’s take a look.
Books and Puzzles
Books and puzzle books may be a little heavy, but they are thin and convenient when it comes to packing. Most importantly however, if we look at the size vs time occupied ratio, we can see that these kinds of books will keep kids entertained for hours, making them a great option. Puzzle and coloring-in books should always be the first items in the carry-on bag (just don’t forget the pencils).
Tablet
Understandably there are many parents who would look to limit the amount of time which their child spend at home on their tablets, but when it comes to a holiday, they can be a God-send. Try to steer your kids into a more educational direction when downloading apps for their tablets, so at least they can do some learning whilst they are having fun.
Fave Toy
If it is possible you should always look to bring your child’s favorite bear/doll/car or toy with them. Beyond anything else this is going to give them some level of familiarity, whilst their routine is flipped upside down and when their surroundings are most certainly unfamiliar. This may not always be possible if their fave toy is a big one, but try at least to take something which they really love.
Journal Experience
Older kids love to write about their travels and that is why putting together a journal experience pack is a great idea. Here you can put a disposable camera, a cool pen, a journal to write in and even a little envelope where your young one can place items they have picked up along the way like ticket stubs. This will keep your kids occupied on the plane and during their holiday. Try to give them challenges like things they have to spot whilst they are away, just to keep their interest.
Deck of Cards
A deck of cards should always be in your bag, as kids can do so much with them. Your kids could learn card tricks, play card games and they can even use the cards to build card houses. This small pack is convenient to travel with and you can be absolutely sure that it will provide them with endless hours of fun.
These are just some ideas which will keep your kids busy when they go on vacation.
