3 Best Destinations to Plan to See This Winter

  • June 30, 2022
  • Jules

Right now, you’re likely enjoying your summer vacation, but if you want to make the most of your winter holidays, it’s time to start thinking of where you’ll want to go.

It might seem ludicrous to travel to another country when you could be home by the fireplace in winter. However, many places have beautiful winters worth making the trip to. There are natural phenomena, stunning landscapes, and more that will excite your life during the cold season.

Here, discover three different places you can visit this coming winter and the wonders they have to offer.

1. Tasmania

Tasmania, tucked away in the corner of Australia on an island, bears a lush landscape and beautiful national parks to visit. Whether you’re looking to immerse yourself in the local culture through festivals or explore the wine country and whiskey trail, there are many various activities to fill your itinerary.

Tasmania in winter has two primary festivals during this time: the Mid-Winter Festival and the MOFO Winter Festival. Both are very different, offering different experiences to have during your visit.

The Mid-Winter festival covers the history of the local apple growing industry and welcomes tourists and locals to celebrate with special batch apple cider tastings. There’s even a mobile hair salon. In contrast, the other festival is for those who are more thrill-seeking. Participants will enjoy a nude swim in the icy local waters or watch from the sides.

2. Iceland

Iceland is a hidden gem filled with natural wonders and unique landscapes, making it a stunning location to take a trip. Due to the constantly changing environment, there are many wonders you can only experience during the winter.

While you may be able to tour some glacier caves during the summer, the breathtaking Vatnajokull glacier ones can only be accessed during the winter. Unlike ice caves, glacier caves are entirely composed of ice and offer beautiful blue walls which make for stunning photos.

Another noteworthy activity during this time of year is witnessing the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. These “lights” are a massive display of color in the sky, a natural phenomenon only able to be viewed in certain parts of the world.

If you’re a hiking fan, many different hikes can be taken across the country with beautiful scenery in the background. Whether it be waterfalls or unique terrain, the journey will not disappoint. There are trails ranging in all types of difficulty.

3. Barcelona

The beautiful European city is a popular tourist destination during the summer, but going in winter for off-season travel means you’ll likely be able to stumble across cheaper flights and hotels in the region. While swimming might be more daring during this time of year, there are many activities still able to fill your trip with.

For instance, Barcelona has an excellent background in art and architecture, which contributes to many structural destinations to explore through a sophisticated tour. These buildings are all over the city and open to the public, making for some low-budget activities.

One of the biggest draws to this destination is the region’s well-known nightlife, which offers bar-hopping and sightseeing. There are many clubs across the city, some even along the beach front. The pricing for clubs in the region is pretty average but can get expensive if hopping around throughout the night.

Make the Most of Your Winter Holidays

Traveling in the winter is a great way to further immerse yourself in different cultures and experience popular destinations at lower prices. Keep checking prices for this time of year, and you might be able to find your dream destination for a cost that will fit your budget.
