Traveling the world is a common goal. There are many ways to travel, such as the bus, the metro, plane, and car. However, there are many reasons why cycling during your travels is a great idea. You could do a whole trip just by cycle or combine it with any of the mentioned above transportations.
There is no downside, whether it be exercise, changing your perspective, eliminating carbons, or other reasons. When you cycle, you get to take advantage of all of them. So let me share why I love cycling during my travels, regardless of whether it is meant to be a relaxing or active trip!
Cycling Forces You To Be Present
Many people on trips are too busy trying to capture the moment rather than be in the moment. This is the downside to having phones with cameras. Or consider this common experience. I’m guilty of being so concerned with seeing it all I never appreciated any particular site. I just rushed right through, as many do.
But, since you are on a bike, you are forced to look around and be in the moment. There is no ability to whip out your phone unless you are stopped. You get to see things because you have to pay attention to your surroundings. It’s genuinely a blissful feeling.
It’s Enjoyable Exercise
While you can certainly turn up the pace and get a good sweat, even just coasting around the seaside town by bike is exercise. Everyone has a different goal when it comes to exercising, and a lot of these goals can be achieved through cycling.
You could spend an hour in the morning or make it a whole day affair and your primary source of transportation. Regardless there are so many physical and mental benefits of riding a bike.
Eco-Friendly Opportunity
It may not be everyone’s first thought but riding a bike means you’re not sitting in traffic bumper to bumper waiting an hour to get to your next destination. This creates a lot of pollution, and cycling is more environmentally friendly. It may not be possible for all of your travel plans, but when I do a little research on routes, cycling can be a big part of my trips!
Go Where A Car Can’t!
There are several situations where a bike is more convenient than walking and driving a car. Want to move quickly down a crowded street? A bike is perfect for that. You can zip in and out of alleyways or glide through parks to take shortcuts.
Cars also don’t get anywhere quickly when going through a city. Why wait in an hour of traffic when you can get there in 20 by bike! Plus, you get the movie star windblown kind of look if you have long hair.
Save Money
Not every trip allows you to ditch a rental car altogether, but you can save hundreds of dollars if you can team up a bike and some other transportation method. For example, if you are going to New York City, don’t stress about a car! Instead, cycle everywhere and use the metro!
You can even bring your bike on the metro or attach it to the front of the bus if there is a longer ride to get somewhere. The only time a bike would make less sense is when the weather doesn’t allow for it!
While there is an initial investment in buying a bike, taking advantage of GovVelo’s sale of mountain bicycles helps cut down the payment.
Take Advantage of It All
There’s no one reason to take up cycling on your trip. When you decide to take the plunge, you get to take advantage of all the benefits, even if you are someone who cares less about saving money or the environment. Undoubtedly there are significant mental and physical health benefits.
But what most realize is that it is just a completely different way to see the world. One that ultimately makes you feel more engaged with where you are and be in the present movement. Cycling gives our minds a break and allows us to take in our beauty. Ultimately, this is why you should take up cycling during all of your travels!
