Stream While Traveling: How to Take Your Favorite TV Shows With You

  • April 8, 2022
  • Jules

Today’s technological advances have made it possible to do so many things that were not possible in the previous decades. Some of the greatest technologies in history include the telephone, television, personal computers, and automobiles— all of which are much more advanced now than they were when they were first invented.

Technology has also made it easier for us to travel more often, as well as watch TV whenever we want with streaming services. Since traveling and streaming are two popular activities among today’s younger generations, here are the ways that you can take your favorite TV shows with you when you travel.

Streaming Definition + Top Streaming Platforms

Streaming is defined as entertainment delivered continuously. Any type of media can be streamed: TV shows, movies, music, etc. This media can also be streamed live or it can be previously recorded.

Streaming has become much more popular than traditional ways of watching TV. In fact, the majority of people are switching from cable/satellite and are purchasing subscriptions to various streaming services. This is known as cord-cutting, and it’s much less expensive to stream television than it is to pay for cable or satellite TV.

Disney Plus/Disney Bundle

Disney Plus is currently one of the most popular streaming services, especially for children. When traveling with little ones, this is a service worth subscribing to. What’s even better is that it can come in a package deal, along with Hulu and ESPN Plus. Hulu is another streaming service that’s kid-friendly, and adding on ESPN is good for sports lovers.

HBO Max

HBO Max is another very popular streaming service, offering tons of TV shows and movies. It doesn’t offer any live streaming options, but many current shows can be found on this platform. There’s also an add-free subscription option for you to enjoy your favorite shows uninterrupted.

Netflix

Netflix is the most popular streaming service, and it’s also been around the longest— before streaming services were around. Subscription services currently start at $9.99 per month on one device, and all subscription options are add-free.

Peacock

Peacock is the streaming service from the major television network, NBC, so you’ll be able to stream many shows from this network. Right now you can watch Peacock for free with ads, and it’s $4.99 per month if you want uninterrupted streaming.

Streaming on the Road or in the Air

The most common way that people watch their favorite shows while riding (not driving) in a car or flying to their next destination is by streaming their favorite shows on their phone. This is done by downloading the app to a streaming service on your phone, and then logging into your account. Of course, these services require you to create an account and you’re billed monthly/yearly for your subscription— although Peacock currently lets you stream for free with ads.

You can also stream your favorite TV shows on your laptop while you’re traveling. All of these streaming platforms have a website, so you’ll just log into your account on the website to stream your shows on your laptop.

Watching TV at Your Destination

Streaming TV shows and movies while you’re traveling is very easy to do as long as you have a portable device and an internet connection. Still, most people prefer to watch their favorite shows on an actual TV. Fortunately, most hotels, Airbnbs, and other forms of loding have smart TVs that allow you to stream shows and movies because they already have the apps for the platforms on them.

However, not all places will have a smart TV, or maybe it’s an outdated smart TV that doesn’t have all streaming platforms available. You can still watch your favorite streaming platforms if you have an Amazon Fire Stick. You can even unlock more streaming apps on your fire stick by jailbreaking it.

One last option to be able to watch your favorite streaming platforms while you’re on vacation is to take your game console (specifically an Xbox One or a PS4) with you. These consoles, when connected to a TV, allow you to stream certain apps. However, it’s much easier to carry a Fire Stick than it is to carry an entire game console.

Overall, the easiest way to be able to stream your favorite shows while you travel is to watch them from your mobile device. However, if you’re wanting to watch your shows on a TV, it’s very handy to have an Amazon Fire Stick— especially if you’re not sure if you’re going to have access to a smart TV.
