Montenegro decided to extend its top-rated Citizenship-by-Investment program until the end of this year. Although this decision was somewhat unexpected, it cannot but rejoice all those who want to obtain a passport of this country.
In 2021, Montenegro CBI Program generated tremendous interest. It also played a big role in bringing foreign direct investment into the country.
Unfortunately, there are no official statistics regarding government applications, but professionals in the field estimate the total number to be around 700 applications, only in 2020. It is also important to note that 2022 brings new rules to Montenegro CBI Program. So, what changed in the current year for high-net-worth individuals?
What changed in 2022 for Montenegro?
“In the next month, all investors that already requested citizenship must submit to the Government a bank guarantee – in the amount of 50 per cent of the investments prescribed by the program. All new applicants must pay 100,000 euros to the state budget and another 100,000 for regional development,” the government said.
So now the contribution amount is €200,000. Earlier it was €100,000. The CBI agencies believe that the increased price would not be a deterrent factor for those who want to get Montenegro’s citizenship.
Furthermore, all previous applicants should submit a bank guarantee – 50 percent of their investments.
It is well known that Russian and Chinese are absolute leaders in a number of applicants who wish to have second citizenship in Montenegro.
