Three Ways You Can Be A Savvy Traveler

  • March 14, 2022

International and domestic travel is back in full swing but are you? After two years of limited travel, restrictions are starting to lift and airports seem a little bit more lively. In case you’re rusty, follow this advice on how to become a savvy and prepared traveler so that you can face the airport with confidence and know-how.

Look At A Map Of The Airport

Knowing your way around an airport is key! Even if you give yourself lots of time between flights, there are always unknowns. Having a glance at the airport map before you go will help you know how much time you need to get from one gate or terminal to the next. It is also important to know what sort of accessibility each terminal has. For example, if you are living in an assisted living facility, you will be able to ask the airline for special access to a wheelchair or motorized cart.

Having the forethought to call ahead and ask will save you a lot of trouble. Many airports are currently undergoing construction as they build new terminals. To accommodate travelers, temporary shuttles are put in place. These are not very efficient and can take a bit of time. Knowing what to expect once you arrive at the airport will make your travel experience less hectic and more relaxed.

Invest In The “Good” Luggage

When it comes to your suitcases, it never pays to go for the cheap ones. Low-quality suitcases will not keep your belongings safe or dry. They are also not very ergonomic or easy to maneuver.

Doing your research and finding a well-made suitcase will change everything about the way you travel. Look for something with lots of positive user reviews. What’s more, it should roll smoothly and have four, not two, wheels. A good suitcase will also have lots of front and back pockets so that you can safely stash your passport, wallet and phone while walking through the airport.

Bring Your Own Snacks

It is a common misconception that you cannot bring your own food through security. You are not allowed to bring plastic water bottles through but having your own personal stash of snacks is completely allowed. Avoid liquid foods like yogurt or soup but solid foods that are properly wrapped are not a problem at all! Not only will you save money by bringing your own sandwich, cereal bar or bag of chips, you will avoid lengthy lines. Airport food is notoriously overpriced and extremely bland. Skip the cheaply made stuff and have something from your own kitchen so that you can use that extra $20 for your vacation spending!
