Travelling in Winter: How to Brace For the Wet Season

  • December 16, 2021
  • Jules

When planning a trip, you’ll usually be trying to find the best weather window for your travel destination. However, although warm weather and sunny skies may be the ideal for our holidays, things don’t always work out the way we’d like them to. Nowadays, there are some great deals to be had when you travel in the colder season, but this can mean putting up with a little bit of rain during your travels.

You can still have an amazing time even if you may be travelling in your region’s wet season. What you pack in your bags will be crucial to you getting the most out of your wet season travels, however. There are many affordable high-quality traveller’s garments out there nowadays that will help you stay dry and comfortable even if it rains all day, every day. Having the right clothing for your trip often tends to be the difference between your trip being miserable or memorable, so be sure that you take the time to get everything you need to be ready for action when you land at your destination.

Let’s take a look at a few things you will need to pack in your bag when you are travelling in wetter, colder weather.

A Quality Jacket

One of the most important things you will need in your backpack when the rain is bucketing down is a high quality tactical rain jacket. Investing in a good jacket before you set off will ensure that you will stay as dry as possible. Rainproof jackets have an abundance of features nowadays, not to mention that they come in a range of styles and run the gauntlet when it comes to price too. Be sure to do your research to find a high-quality rain jacket that works best for you.

Comfortable Waterproof Pants

In addition to a high-quality rain jacket, you should also make sure that you pack a pair of comfortable waterproof pants. If your upper half is warm and dry but your legs are soaking wet and cold you can be sure that this cold will spread to the rest of your body fairly quickly. Look for waterproof pants that pack down small, and that are also breathable and lightweight so you can carry them around with minimal fuss.

A Selection Of Waterproof Bags

When you’re exploring a new destination, it’s normal to carry a small daypack with you with all of your travel essentials, including your travel documents, money, snacks, camera, phone, and other smaller bits and pieces that you’d like to keep close by. For hikers or backpackers with more to carry, a larger backpack may be better suited for your travelling needs. Regardless of the size of your pack, however, you’ll absolutely need to ensure that it’s well protected against the elements.

Having a rain cover on your bag can be helpful in keeping the rain out but over the course of an entire day, the water will eventually start to get through. Having a selection of waterproof bags to store your belongings inside your daypack will help to protect your electronics and important documents when you are out in stormy weather.

Quick Drying Clothing

There’s nothing worse than dealing with a pile of sopping wet clothes and having nowhere to dry them. What’s more, when you’re travelling you tend to have limited clothing with you too, so you’ll need to ensure that your wardrobe is dry and ready for the next day of adventuring as soon as possible. With this in mind, be sure to choose quick-drying clothing when planning for your next trip, just so you can get more use out of the clothes you bring, even if you get caught in a heavy rainstorm.

Make Sure You Have Everything You Need To Enjoy Your Wet Season Travels

Finally, just because local weather forecasts are predicting rain all across your travel destination, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have a great time on your next trip. With the right clothing and supplies in your pack, you will be able to stay warm and comfortable, regardless of how wet and wild the weather may be!
