8 Packing Tips for Winter Travel

  • December 14, 2021
  • Jules

With the holiday season on and Christmas Eve and New Year fast approaching, we are sure that you have great plans. Perhaps you are traveling to visit your family or are going to an exotic place.

All travelers agree that one of the most challenging things is how to pack light and stay warm while traveling during winters. After all, you will need more layers, heavier clothes, and extra accessories, and all that amounts to much bigger and heavier Bags that can be annoying to handle.

Here are some tips for packing your winter bag and keeping it light and handy, and still staying warm.

  1. Make a packing list, and it should include some long sleeve tops and sweaters, one pair of blue jeans and leggings, thermals, a scarf, gloves, socks, and a hat.  The number of these items will rely on how long your vacation is but stick to the minimum.
  2. Focus on layers and not bulky clothing, as heavy sweaters and sweatshirts can take a lot of space in your bag. So, think in terms of thinner base layers and thin sweaters as your clothing options. Make sure all the layers and pieces work well for the weather and whatever activities you have planned for the trip.
  3. When outdoors, a warm cardigan and a coat are perfect. So wear a thicker cardigan and a woolen coat for your trip, and it is a good idea to wear those instead of packing them. Everyone is going to see the outer layer of your clothing, and if you have those right, the rest will fall in place.
  4. Not forget your moisturizers and do pack a shaving gel. You will get chapped lips and parched skin when you spend time outdoors. Therefore, use a good quality moisturizer on your face and keep your skin fresh, healthy, and glowing this winter.
  5. If you need to carry some heavier and bulky stuff, it is always better to wear rather than pack it. Wearing a heavy sweater is a lot better than packing it, and moreover, you will keep warm and still save some space in your baggage.
  6. Choose clothing made of high-performance fabrics that are known for high warmth-to-weight ratio. This is all the more important for extreme weather. So, it is highly recommended to look for merino wool garments for base layers.
  7. Keep your stuff organized and take your packing to the next level with the use of packing cubes. They can be color-coded and numbered and used to pack different items and can easily fit your carry-on or check-in bag.
  8. When packing for cold weather, choose items that can be worn in layers and keep you warmer. Look for all those essentials that will keep you warm and are still lightweight. You have to choose strategically to travel light this winter and still stay very warm.

Just follow the above-listed tips to make a great start. You will be pleasantly surprised with the results and will be glad to see your baggage much lighter. Look warm and stylish this winter as you travel and stay warm!
