New

India is one of the most magical and enticing places on the planet. Not only are there many beautiful and unique places to visit, but there are also incredible people and amazing food. If you are touring through the country, then making a stop in New Delhi should be a priority!

However, sometimes you don’t have a lot of time to spend exploring a new city. If you are trying to see as much of India as possible, then do not fret! We have put together a list of what to see in three days in New Delhi! That way you can book your air India ticket, and bask in the greatness of India’s capital city without having to stay for weeks on end.

Humayun’s Tomb

The son of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, Humayun was emperor of the Mughal Empire from December 1530 to May of 1540, then again from 1555 to 1556. His exemplary tomb in New Dehli was commissioned by his first wife, Empress Bega Begum. She also has her final resting place here.

It is a tour de force of the unique Mughal architecture style and has absolutely stunning details. Not to mention it is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can purchase tickets for a full, informational tour, or simply explore the site on your own. The many gardens and the proximity to the Yamuna River make it a wondrous sight to behold.

Akshardham

A Hindu Temple located near the border of Noida, the Swaminarayan Akshardham Delhi is definitely a must see. The temple opened in 2005 and is dedicated to the spiritual, cultural, as well as artistic and architectural impact of Hindu on the world. It is a brilliant example of art and architecture in New Delhi.

The Akshardham Delhi includes many exhibits and entertainment options. Whether you are traveling solo, or going as a family, there is something for everyone. Here are just a few:

  • The Musical Fountain (Yagnapurush Kund) – India’s largest step well, this marvelous fountain has a twenty-four minute, multimedia water show that is absolutely amazing.
  • Beautiful Gardens – Well manicured lawns, shrubs, and gardens are all over the grounds. With giant lotus shaped sunken gardens, as well as sculptures of famous figures, the grounds of the Akshadham are astounding.
  • Sanskruti Vihar (Boat Ride) – a boat ride that takes you through the history and heritage of Vedic India. Filled with life-sized robotic figures, this aquatic journey takes you through the contributions of Indians in science, history, mathematics, literature, arts, yoga, warfare, as well as many more fields of study.
  • Nilkanth Darshan (The Theatre) – Here you will see Delhi’s first large format screen. The theatre puts on a 40-minute film about Swaminarayan’s seven-year pilgrimage in his teenage years.
  • Sahajanand Darshan (Hall of Values) – This exhibit is filled with robotics and dioramas that depict the life of Swaminarayan. The stunning Mandir central dome, as well as the many messages about peace and harmony truly make this a fascinating stop.

The Akshardham is a fantastic place to spend one of your three days in New Delhi. Not only can you experience a wide variety of art and architecture, but you can also enjoy learning about an incredible culture.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

The Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is dedicated to a boy prophet (Sri Guru Hari Krishan Sahib) who was said to hand out sanctified water in a time of plague. It is believed that the water healed those sick Hindi and Muslim peoples during that time. That being said,  this stunning place of worship for Sikhs in New Delhi is a must see.

You can take tours of this grand temple, as well as visit on your own. The striking golden dome, as well as the comforting sound of hymns and chants make this holy place incredibly inviting. Most of these kinds of temples are restricted to non-Sikhs, so the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is unique in that it allows all visitors.

The Chandni Chowk

Located in Old Delhi, the Chandni Chowk is one of India’s oldest, yet still active, markets! You can walk through the narrow streets listening to the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Haggle for fine spices, or unique hand-crafted jewelry, as well as find the best deals on amazing food and treats!

This iconic mainstreet recently had a facelift. Not only can you explore the many shops, but you’ll also be able to see how absolutely stunning the new sidewalks and public features look.

The Best Places for Your 3 Days in New Delhi

There are lots of incredible restaurants, historical sites, as well as important cultural locations in New Delhi. However, three days is not a lot of time to fit it all in! If you’ve only got a bit of time in this spectacular Indian Metropolitan area, then these places are the best spots to experience New Delhi.
