It’s a common battle while planning a family vacation between what’s fun for kids, and what will make the adults happy.
It’s often give and take. One place could have a ton of activities for your children, but it may be lackluster when it comes to adult fun. Contrastingly, your kids might be disappointed if you can’t find enough for them to do in a different city.
So how do we determine just how fun a city really is?
A recent study may have the answers. Spilsbury, an online toy and game store, just ranked the 50 most populous U.S. cities according to their playful level for both kids and adults. The report used 12 unique ranking factors in total, six for kids and six for adults, to determine the most playful cities in 2021.
If you’re wondering what determines a playful city, the company looked at a variety of different factors like arcades and toy stores for kids, or barcades and comedy clubs for adults.
According to the study, your best bet for your next vacation is in California. Four cities in California made the top 20 for children, and three cities made the top 20 for adults. In fact, the No. 1 most playful city for children was San Jose.
“This large metro is steeped in sun and surrounded by the beautiful hills of Silicon Valley,” said the company, “so it’s no surprise that San Joseans have ample opportunity to play outdoors.”
The most playful city for adults? Look no further than Louisville, Kentucky. “The most playful city for adults is filled with more comedy clubs per 100,000 residents than any other city on our list of the most playful cities for adults.
Whether you’re after stand-up, a bit of slapstick, or dinner and a show, Louisville offers a bit of everything.”
Now that you know the most playful city for both kids and adults, where can your family have the most fun together?
Well, nine cities made the top 20 for both children and adults. But look no further than Nashville to satisfy the whole family. The Music City was named the No. 5 most playful city for both categories with its high concentration of comedy clubs and GameStops.
