  • June 17, 2021

Cancun is one of the best places to practice tourism, one of the most beautiful cities in the Mexican Caribbean. You can visit beautiful places and incomparable white sand beaches, and crystal clear waters. That is why you will need a vehicle to move from one place to another without problems or complications. In this post, we bring you the best tips to Rent a Car in Cancun during your vacation and make the most of it.

How to rent a car in Cancun

First of all, the most important recommendation is to make your reservation in advance! This will allow you to check other rental options in the city to make the best decision regarding the vehicle model that best suits you and its price.

Whether you are a local or a foreigner, if you want to book a Car Rental in Playa del Carmen, Cancun, or the Riviera Maya, you will need a valid ID or passport, be over 18 years old, a credit card, and a driver’s license.

There are several ways to rent a car in Cancun; one of the best known is directly at the counter. Yet, it is much better to rent a car through a website, especially if you are not in the city where the rental company is located.

Renting a car in Cancun will also allow you to visit places like Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya. In addition, some agencies offer unlimited mileage, which will be a real advantage if you want to get to know the city and its surroundings.

Compare Prices and Rent a Car with Insurance Included

Most agencies will offer prices as low as $1; but, it is best to make a test reservation to see the actual cost of the vehicle you are about to rent. Generally, agencies that offer rentals with prices from $1 to $10 do not have insurance and do not cover taxes, so that you will see the prices reflected at the end of your reservation.

Before booking a Cancun Car Rental, talk to a car rental consultant and ask if the agency offers insurance.

Tips for driving in Cancun.

You should see if you are a foreigner because the speed is marked in km/h (kilometers per hour) on vehicles and the city signs.

You will also find speed bumps throughout the city, which indicate that you should slow down when approaching a busy place such as schools, plazas, and more.

Within the city, the speed limit is usually 40 km/h, and in the outskirts of the city or fast avenues, the speed can go from 60 to 80 km/hr.

If you are a foreigner, especially if you come from Europe, where the driver’s steering wheel is on the right side, you should know that you will find the steering wheel only on the left in Cancun and the rest of Mexico.

The best vehicles to drive in Cancun

The best category to drive a car and move from one place to another in Cancun is a compact automatic car, this way driving will be much easier for you; especially if you use the GPS in the city.
