  • May 26, 2021
  • admin

Mexico City lies at an altitude of above 2200 meters in the Anahuac valley amid mighty mountain ranges. The city’s location is spectacular, with some breathtaking snow-covered volcanoes. Izztacci Huati and Popocatepetl stand about 5000 meters high. The pre-Colombian art and architecture exist in fragments since the new city was built on an Aztec metropolis. There are also baroque palaces and churches during the early colonial period.

Mexico is quite a big city compared to others in terms of area and population, but the tourists’ attraction sites are around the historic city center De la Ciudad, which is a 15-kilometer UNESCO world heritage site with more than 1400 essential buildings dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries.

Looking for a great place to enjoy yourself in Mexico? Then the Aztec origins can be enjoyed on foot. Here are some spectacular places you must see while in Mexico City:

Zocalo

This is commonly regarded as the birthplace of the constitution- Plaza de la Constitution. This is the place of the proclamation of the first constitution in 1813. It’s one of the largest world’s squares, measuring 240 meters.

The square served many purposes during the pre-colonial period; it was the market and a bullfighting arena, but today it’s used for parades, festivals, and demonstrations. Some of the most visited tourist attraction sites in this city are the National Palace, the metropolitan cathedral, and Tempo mayor. Zocalo is a perfect place for exploring the city.

National Museum of anthropology

This is one of its kind in the world. The museum lies in Chapultepec Park, and the enormous monolithic figure that marks its entrance makes the museum so outstanding. Contemporary architecture is also famous Forits magnificent displays of old Indian treasures. The vast collection of archaeological finds from extinct cultures makes this a site to behold. And the lifestyle of the Indian inhabitants in this place will also amaze you.

The Fine Arts Palace

The Palace of Arts is one of Mexico’s essential landmarks and an architectural gem. It towers over the adjacent park – a massive marble building designed by one of India’s renowned architects- Adamo Board.

The palace hosts a variety of traditional and international dances with so many productions. But the historic murals that adorn this place is the reason why many visitors come to this place. Then on the 4th floor are the rotating exhibits of contemporary architecture. The theater’s interior décor is so outstanding with a glass-mosaic curtain that depicts the city of Mexico and the two mighty volcanoes.

The city’s metropolitan cathedral

Above all things, the towering cathedral is one of the largest and oldest churches in the western hemisphere. A grey sandstone structure that was begun in 1525 and extended 250 years and counting. Apart from the neoclassical towers and other features, the façade brings about the Baroque impression. The bell towers added in the year 1793 and statues of faith and hope make the cathedral stand out and makes it one of the Mexico City Attractions to behold. The interior is also adorned with a mix of styles that highlight the building as the carved altar of the rich.
