Stamp of Approval: Best islands for a year-round vacation in the Caribbean

  • October 9, 2020
  • Jules

Looking for a perfect vacation spot in the Caribbean? There are several great places you can go to. Year-round sunny beaches, sparkling water, and comfy accommodation are ideal as a getaway from your busy lifestyle.

The Caribbean is on the bucket list of almost everybody. There is nothing like soaking in salty water while enjoying the warmth on your skin. It is also a top destination for everyone who likes to stay active on their vacation. You can go swimming, snorkeling, diving, paddling, and so much more on each of these islands.

Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos is among the leading locations to visit for white sandy beaches in the Caribbean. The easy-going atmosphere, coral reefs, and crystal-clear water make this a very popular honeymoon destination. Grace Bay Beach was rated as the best in the world for several years in a row by TripAdvisor, and as a top beach by Conde Nast Traveler.

The third-largest coral reef in the world is located here, and this little country is a remarkable diving paradise that attracts visitors from around the world. Other unique attractions you can see here are Chalk Sound National Park with hundreds of small rocky islands in a scenic lagoon, Mudjin Harbour with an amazing view of the ocean, and extraordinary Conch Bar Caves National Park where you can explore what is under the surface of the island.

The island is very quiet and many beaches and lagoons feel exclusively vacant just for you and your crew. All the beaches are wide and long, and even with people being around you can still have your privacy. Swim in turquoise water with your snorkeling gear and keep your eyes open for marine animals such as stingrays, barracudas, and dolphins.

The climate on this island is very consistent with similar temperatures throughout the year, mostly in the 80s. A breeze from the Atlantic makes even the hottest day very comfortable.

You can expect excellent service in private villas and popular hotels. Here is an example of a great luxury stay for you and your travel buddies.

Barbados

Barbados is a small island but that doesn’t mean there is not much to do here. When you visit Barbados you will be amazed by the culture, including museums in downtown Bridgetown, pristine beaches, and all the activities you can try.

This fascinating island, famous as a birthplace of rum, offers remarkable landscapes that you can see if you take a road trip around the island. Rent a car or a motorcycle and go on an adventure. Barbados is not a place where you want to only stay in your beach hotel, but rather to experience what the island is all about.

Visit fishing villages in the north, former plantations with gorgeous historic buildings, and many tropical beaches along the way. The must-see is Bathsheba Beach with recognizable rock formations shaped by the ocean. It is the location where many international and domestic surfing competitions are organized.

Many Caribbean islands have festivals, but the one in Barbados is probably the most popular and world-famous. It is a Crop Over Carnival that lasts for the entire summer and results in an epic party at the end of August, The Grand Kadooment. Don’t be surprised to see celebrities at this party too!

The nature of this island is incredible. You can go on a tour to see sea turtles, green monkeys, flying fish, dolphins, and many more animal species. Snorkeling, sea kayaking, parasailing, and diving are other fun activities offered through the island. Barbados also has a gorgeous rainforest, approximately 40 minutes from Bridgetown, ideal for a hike.

Aruba

Have you ever seen a photo of flamingos on the beach? That was from Aruba! This gorgeous island is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, located very close to the shore of Venezuela. The climate is dry and the landscapes are desert-like, which makes this island a great place for a year-round vacation. It is also located outside of the Hurricane Alley.

Warm weather and blonde beaches are a dream come true for travelers from around the world. It is also a good diving destination with rich marine life and amazing shipwrecks.

If you are traveling with the entire family, staying in the picturesque capital city Oranjestad might be the best option. You will find museums, shops, beautiful colonial buildings, and many family-friendly activities. Your little ones will love The Butterfly Farm. Adults can enjoy thrilling night clubs, fine dining restaurants, and delightful shopping experiences. Here you can buy fine ceramics from the Netherlands, aloe products, gourmet chocolates, and so much more.

For nature-lovers Arikok National Park is a must-see location. Here you will see breathtaking wind formed dunes and rock formations, cactuses, and caves. Other day trips you can take on the island include visits to the Nature Pool, Boca Prins coast, and Andicuri Beach.

Before you go

There are many reasons to visit the Caribbean. The culture is vibrant and colorful, with music and food inspired by many nationalities that crossed their paths here. The best way to see the authentic culture is if you visit small villages, go to local souvenir shops, and join one of the carnivals.

The Caribbean is easily accessible from the United States and Canada, but also well connected with other countries in the world. Several of the islands still belong to European countries and speak languages like French, Spanish or Dutch. Still, English is widely spoken in the Caribbean and they use US dollars or accept them in most restaurants and shops.

Make sure to have your passport with you, to buy sunscreen that is safe for coral reefs, and to explore islands outside of your resort. Island hopping by air or by boat is an excellent idea for anyone who is an explorer at heart. Other ways of seeing the area are hiking, biking, and scenic driving. Do not wait for the peak touristy times of the year, any time is the best time to visit the Caribbean.
