Can You Travel Safely After Eye Surgery?

  • August 27, 2019
  • admin

If you’re like most people who have less than perfect vision, you know how exciting it is if you’ve decided to get eye surgery. A lot of corrective operations that you can get done now are very safe, effective, and relatively inexpensive. However, if you also do a lot of traveling, there are a few stipulations that you should be concerned with.

So after your eye surgery, is there any traveling that you shouldn’t do? To answer this question, first, you need to do some research about Lasik. It is a very well documented surgery, so there is a ton of accurate information available about healing times.

Second, you should consider where you are going. Your eyes will take some time to heal after surgery, and there can be some side effects. You need to think about if you should be traveling when some of these consequences may happen. And third, think about how you are getting to your destination. If someone else is driving, then you have less to worry about.

Researching Lasik

As you begin researching different types of eye surgery, you’ll find the most common one for correcting your vision would be to get LASIK. After you talk to your optometrist and potentially your medical doctor, you’ll find out if this option is available to you. Most eye doctors will suggest that your eyes don’t change for a few years before getting the surgery done. This will allow the operation to be successful with the least amount of risk involved.

Where Are You Going?

If you’re planning on traveling somewhere exotic, it may be good to wait for a little while after your eye surgery is done. You want to be as close as possible to anywhere that you can go and case you have some emergency during your healing process. This is another case where you would want to talk to your surgeon about what your future travel plans are.

They will try to schedule it to make sure that during your healing phase, you aren’t anywhere that you don’t have access to the care you might require.

How Are You Getting There?

A final consideration of eye surgery and traveling would be the question of how you are getting to your destination. If you are going to be the one doing the driving, it’s vital that you are healed from your eye surgery before you take up this role. However, if someone else is doing the driving, it won’t be any big deal if you still have some eye discomfort or blurry vision.

Eye surgery is a very exciting opportunity for people to correct their vision. Travel is something that people enjoy. However, be very cautious when mixing the two so that you will keep safety first.
