Mountaineering guide for beginners – 4 tips for safe climbing

  • July 22, 2019
  • admin

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to enjoy extreme outdoor activities like mounting climbing. Without the previous mountaineering experience, you would not be able to climb the Mount Everest of course, but you could definitely go for easier tracks and start developing your skills. For those of you without any experience in this exciting sport, here are the 4 simple steps you have to follow in order to get ready for a new adventure.

  1. Plan the route

Proper research of the montane is essential for both professionals and beginners. This means checking the details like weather, trails, the presence of rivers, terrain, etc. Joining a real expedition, organized by professional guides like Altezza Travel, is the safest and easiest thing to do. These guys are familiar with routes, and they take safety precautions on every step of the trail. For every trekker/climber/hiker, the most important is to stay safe, avoid injuries and not to get lost.

  1. Prepare your body

Cardio exercises are something you should implement in your daily routine if you want to finish the trek and reach the final point. Your body has to be fit for this kind of adventure, especially because the air is thinner at higher altitudes. Besides joining, you can also practice climbing the stairs while wearing your backpack (with some weight in it of course). With this exercise, you will improve both cardio and strength and expose your body to similar conditions, stress, and load.

  1. Climbing gear

First of all, your clothes should be 100% waterproof, in case bad weather hits you on a trail. The shoes should be made of high-quality and waterproof materials as well, comfortable and not too heavy. Depending on the type of mountain climbing, you will also have to provide a harness, helmet, protective equipment, tent, etc. First aid kit should be among your essentials as well, so don’t forget to bring it with you.

  1. Food and drinks

If you are planning to spend a couple of days exploring the mountain and its beauty, choosing the right food is also very important. Since you are going to be physically very active, food rich in carbs would be the best choice. Luckily, there are plenty of healthy options like energy bars, granola bars, dried fruit, wraps, nuts, gel packs, etc. Water is also very important, and besides taking a few bottles with you, you might go for a few water filters as well. There are plenty of them on the market, specially designed for mountaineering and camping activities.

Mountaineering is an amazing sport. Even though it might look easier than it actually is, mounting climbing requires certain preparation and knowledge. Following the above-mentioned steps will help you to get ready and plan your adventure. Before putting your backpack on and leaving your place, don’t forget to tell your loved ones where are you heading up to. Let them know about your plan, and keep in touch with them any time you can. Until you master the mountaineering skills enough to go on your own, it is safer to take professional guides and join organized expeditions.
