It used to be the case that every cool kid on the block rode a skateboard, weaving effortlessly in and out of obstacles, leaping up kerbs, and generally showing off. However, most of us grew out of that and into cars. Life suddenly seemed adult, sensible and overflowing with responsibilities, until … the electric skateboard.
Marty McFly not only saved the day and got the girl, but very nearly invented the e-skateboard. He was certainly there at the beginning of the journey. Now, whilst not exactly mainstream, they are rapidly gaining in popularity with commuters, and big kids everywhere.
Why should that journey to work be dull and mind destroying? Electric skateboards are the way to travel the shorter commutes, maybe even from rail station to office desk. They can be carried and stored easily, charging while you work, ready to be homeward bound at the end of the day. However, merely seeing them as a commuter gadget misses the point. E-skateboards are fun, mentally liberating and, let’s face it, super cool.
There is nothing – I repeat nothing, to beat the feeling of the open wind in your hair and your eyes streaming as you fly down the street, flexing around obstacles, carving your own path through the town. With off-roading wheels, you can even explore rougher trails that you wouldn’t even think of touching with non-motorized boards, leaving the dusty town in your wake.
Built-in brakes and removing the need to push eliminates any issues that affect balance, making e-skateboards ideal for newbies and, of course, without requiring any gas, insurance, and maintenance the costs are kept to a minimal. As is the environmental impact.
Bicycles have always been low on the environmental impact scale, but now even they have been transformed by electricity. An electric bike, or e-bike, is a combination of a regular bike, a battery and a motor, which allows both pedal power, and assisted cycling.
There are a whole host of reasons why you might want to take the easy option and give your legs a break. An e-bike, like the e-skateboard, is a great option for commuting, avoiding arriving at work hot and bothered. You may be recovering from an injury, or not as young as you once were, and an electric bike can get you out in the country without expending you energy. While you may not be conditioned to ride 10-15 miles at a time, you can cover those distances easily with an e-bike, so it’s a great way to build stamina and confidence.
Getting off the beaten track is easy with an e-bike, with the engine flattening out the hills, charging the battery as you freewheel down from the heights. There’s a certain mind clearing calmness that the sound of gravel shifting under your tyres brings when you’re surrounded by echoing silence, which, with an e-bike anyone can experience. Young, old, novice or experienced cyclist, the joy of a cycle ride can belong to us all.
Whether you get your kicks experiencing an adrenaline filled e-skateboard adventure, or flying through the landscape, straightening out the curves on two wheels, it’s great to be able to share, or to relive, the excitement. And that’s where drone cameras are so awesome. It’s so simple, but so exhilarating, to be able to experience those thrills all over again, but from a bird’s eye view. Looking down on yourself as you swerve round objects, heart-in-mouth, or relive the rush as you crest the hill, and see the panorama stretching out in front of you.
The world is awe-inspiring and amazing, be it dramatic townscapes, or the untamed wilderness – get out there and experience it on electric skateboards or bikes, watched over by a high flying drone that’s simultaneously downloading your adventures to your friends back home!
