New Zealand: Your Way

  • April 19, 2017

There are many number of ways to enjoy a memorable visit to the spectacular island of New Zealand.  There are so many activities to choose from, you might need help deciding what to do. New Zealand self drive tours are a great way to choose vacation experiences tailored to what you want to see.  Start learning what this beautiful island has to offer by going to their official website. Whether you are vacationing by yourself, or you plan to take others along, it is a good idea to sit down and decide what kinds of activities you want to plan and what your interests are. Having a list of do not miss attractions, will help you plan the best visit. If you choose to receive the help of a travel organization, this list will help them give you what you need to enjoy your vacation to the fullest.

Visit the Official Website to Get a Great Overview

You should decide how many days you have to spend on your trip. Visiting the official website of New Zealand is a great place to start learning about what you can do when you visit. Recommended trips based on the length of your stay is just one resource available on this website. Suggested transportation, accommodations, facts about the island, destinations, and things to do are the many topics covered on this helpful source of information about New Zealand.

Consider Your Interests When Choosing Attractions to Visit

If you only have a week or so to visit, you might consider an “overview” of well-known sights and attractions. One tour many people want to take is the Hobbiton movie set that was featured in the popular The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies. You might be more interested in visiting natural features such as the Hells Gate Geothermal Reserve, Waitomo Caves, Glaciers, Mountains, and water features.  Perhaps a cultural and historical tour is more in line with what you want. An evening with the Maori (including a Hangi dinner,) tickets to Warbirds Over Wanaka, or a visit to the TSS Earnslaw Vintage Steamship might be the kind of site you would like to see.

A Longer Visit Means an in Depth View of the Island

A visit of more than two weeks to the island not only gives you more time to spend at attractions and destinations, but it also expands opportunities for seeing more that New Zealand has to offer. If you are a movie or fantasy buff, there are more locations you can visit used in the filming of Peter Jackson’s movies. These experiences include a helicopter flight, full day tour in Wellington (where you can walk in the footsteps of hobbits, men, and elves) and four wheel drive backcountry safari tour of more scenic locations included in the movies. A wilderness jet boating safari is also available for this purpose.

Examples of Itineraries on the Self Drive Tour

One of the self drive tours offer a visit to Paihia, Bay of Islands. Here you can take two different cruises. One allows you to swim with dolphins, and the other takes you on a tour to the Hole in the Rock location. Another location on this self drive tour takes you to visit unique underground caves. Waitomo caves visit includes the unique experience of seeing thousands of glowworms hanging from the cave ceiling. This location also includes Ruakuri cave, where the entrance is like a spiral. Inside the cave you can view formations that appear similar to shawls and see echoing waterfalls. On this driving tour, your visit takes you to New Zealand’s most visited attraction: Huka Falls. The cliff face features over 220,000 liters of water falling over its surface every second.

These are but a few exciting and interesting experiences that you can have when you visit New Zealand and take a self drive tour. This choice of travel experience is great whether you like to fly by the seat of your pants when traveling, or you like everything planned out in detail. The important thing to remember is to do a little research before you go, so that you will not miss anything you might want to see.
